Shit, were backing out of going for Eze now? That’s a really bad idea! We were so short of attacking options last season due to injuries. And so far we’ve only added Madueke and Gyorkeres.

Sterling is gone (no great loss there honestly). Either Trossard or Martinelli might still be heading out. Jesus is still a long way from full match fitness. Dowman is still way too young and needs to be treated with kid gloves. And we have no really promising attacking options coming up from the Academy (side from Nwaneri). We need another attacking midfielder, and I think another striker.

I mean, in fairness, Dowman is a really promising attacking option coming up from the academy XD

But yeah, bit lacking in that department among the players who’ll actually play for the academy.

You have to think of it like this

      • Havertz/Gyökeres
      • Saka/Madueke
      • Martinelli/Trossard
      • Ødegaard/Nwaneri
      • Rice/Merino
      • Zubimendi/Nørgaard
      • Lewis-Skelly/Calafiori
      • Timber/White
      • Gabriel/Kiwior
      • Saliba/Mosquera
      • Raya/Kepa

On top of that we have Zinny, Jesus, Dowman, Lokonga and Nelson. All of which we desperately want to sell, minus Dowman. Not to mention some other kids like Salmon. I think we’ll push to try and get Rodrygo on loan too, so the problem won’t be not enough option, it’s going to be giving everyone enough minutes.

I think the smart business is to bring in Eze, but him coming in will worry and unsettle Merino, Dowman, Nwaneri, Martinelli, Trossard and Madueke.

Imma be honest? They should be unsettled. We should be keeping them a bit more on their toes, that left hand side needs some fight. Trossard and Martinelli haven’t been as good as they both could be and Merino has been upgradeable in midfield as good as he has been up top. And the rest will easily find minutes on the right where they’re probably intended for anyway.

I would go one further and say the left side has gone as far as it can. Martinelli doesn’t have the mentality of a starter but is a very very good squad player. The fact that he tried to emulate Trossard’s style and hasn’t progressed proves that. As for Trossard, he’s just limited and the easiest to upgrade upon.
