  • “Here’s the thing. No reasonable person has an issue with women having their own women’s activity groups. The annoying part is that whenever men try to do something similar, that’s a problem. Women either want them banished or demand entry, EVERY time.”

My rpg club took the incdusivity road in the 2010, and is now a very inclusive/diverse place. We do have the blue haired enbies that riqht winger hate, and some old players who after acouple of beer starts complaining about RPG becoming woke (An inclusive place means they’re welcome too)

We do have a couple of women only group and a point someone launched a men only table. While we had one of the old player complaining about the women only game, no blue haired enby complained about the men only game. So I have the impression that this whole women only space are OK, men only space aren’t is some bullshit.

Note that, this worked becaused the gender specific game include people identifying as this gender, are the exception, and have a justification. It’s not I don’t like wo•man so I want only a gender but * I want a game exploring masculinity/feminity and therefore will limit the cast gender*

  • The level of “endogamy” within the rich and powerful is definitely slowing things up. We have strong evidence that these people are all at least acquaintance if not friends. It may not be great for your career to investigate/prosecute top level politicians and billionaires. Actually the positive of the documents release is that people see it.

Then a big factor is that being invited to a party where children have been rape doesn’t prove you partake to the rapes or even have been aware of it.

Finally, money means that you can afford a lawyer slowing things down by writing various requests to the court. Your lawyer will tell you to save your money and do the necessarà/efficient one. But for people with virtually infinite money, a team of lawyer can slow down the things

  • The Irony, is that while at least in my local community, the young generation includes a lot of openly neurodivergent gay/enbi players, I feel like that the reason why the theme is so sensitive for older player is that many of the older player never thought the time to question about-it, you know, the 50 year old “straight” conventionally attractive long term single who always play the other gender, may not just be too busy to date

  • Actually it’s hard to keep politic out of RPG.

In game, politic is what makes the game more than just killing random person you know the Princess who want to escape a political marriage, the advisor looking to become the lord, the church and and the merchant guild trying to gain influence ? All of that is politics. and all of that is what makes your campaign fun.

In real-life, like any other social activity especially if you get wider than a closed circle, politics get involved, your club need to talk with the mayor to get a slot in the municipal culture centre or rent a room in a school. Moreover, RPG tend to have a bad reputation and be not correct according to conservative which make it even more political than tons of other RPG, if you let church and right-winger tell you which hobby are acceptable you won’t be able to play RPG

  • I get your point about full time school which may require 2-3 years without income (even though in some countries you may keep your unemployment rights). But often, especially for shorter degrees, there is options in evening classes, whith less hours (sometimes at the price of a longer time) some would even give you real degree. Moreover, if unemployed, sometimes a 6 month training can give you the basis to be hired, either in a manual job, or to fix a missing skill on your CV

  • There’s a stereotype of Chinese brands being “low quality” which obviously isn’t always true to begin with,

This was still debatable 10-15 years ago, but today? Huawei or Redmi do phone which compete in the same league as Samsung, BYD is leading the electric car market. (I even have a made in China Eastman guitar, for the price of the Taylor everybody has, I got a way better guitar, and that Taylor is damn great)

Sure, there is still tons of cheap, low quality stuff on Ali Baba,it’s great for hobby crafting but China has moved toward high quality products.

To answer your question, I expect to see a Chinese company entering the global Ram, FPGA and GPU market. Especially considering the US embargo forbidding Nvidia and Intel to export their high end products in China. Looks like a quick way to push China to grow their domestic production

  • What’s your target audience ? An what’s the goal ?

There is a difference between Giving a programming training to scientist/engineer who may need more than just Excel for data-processing/visualisation, and giving a discovery what programming looks-like for a general public, or people who want to do their own website.

For general public, the good-old “Logo” that kids learned programming with in the 70-90’s is still great

for scientists engineer, I would go for python which is the de-facto standard for data visualisation/processing when performance doesn’t matter

For a more foundation course, I think the everything is object approach in java can be pretty great

  • Translation is expensive, it needs to not only to translate the story but the author’s style and pun. A niche book won’t be translated, especially in smaller languages (you have a bigger market when you translate in Spanish/French/German than when you translate in Luxemburgish or Nepalese). With that regard, english-language writer have the advantage of using a language that many can read, giving publishing company a glimpse of the translation potential.

With the power of “LLM” and translation app like deepl, it may work better in the future. However, at the moment, deepl is far from giving a professional grade results, especially when you have ambiguous word or a “specific but uncommon context”. It work to share a blog-post/news article, but won’t be sufficient to get fun to read book or an usable technical manual (However, corporate legal department may have a different opinion, it will be an interesting trial the day an accident occur due to an ambiguity in an automated translation)

  • My problem isn’t much GPU dying, or getting not powerful enough, but that as we work in a “certified environment”, everyone sourcing can’t procure anymore a GPU model, we can’t just buy the next generation and assume it works, but have to run an extensive list of test, then update documentations including list of supported GPU per system version(especially for service) .

Basically, it’s the kind of stuff where you can loose a lot of time (and which isn’t always high on priority list) so feel like as soon as we finally approved the usage of a GPU version, we have our suplier telling us it’s not available anymore. I would love to have a GPU manufacturer offering 10-15 years of market availability (Like we get for FPGA) .

  • French rpg bloodlust is famous for God Weapon having their own urges but not being able to indulge them without a human bearing the weapon.

Leading to the poor human getting some power based on what the weaponk let them do, while having a weapon begging them to indulge in violence, lust or any other awful sin.

Having a player having the weapon and another one the bearer open the road to pretty interesting roleplay

with randos off Discord or Roll20 and not actually in person with people they know.

I know online rpg changed a lot in 20 years, but when I was playing online around 2010, playing on teamspeak, also meant be part of community, and ask others GM about new players before having them joining your table (No show, cheating and other bad behaviour would quickly be known by everyone) . Moreover, because you don’t know them, it’s easy to kick them out.

  • Horror RPG taught me about how important it is to take the time to play normality, let the player connect with their character, have fun and light roleplay moment, until that moment when horror steps in.

Player dealing with monsters and having blood up to their knee ends up being epic high fantasy but not horror.

On a more norme activity the movie the descent is a great exemple the first half slowly drift from stressful to frightening, then the second half is girl fighting Gollum in the mud, and turn from frightening to comical
