He appears to have been pretty outspoken recently about how Odegaard should be stripped of the captaincy and it should be given to Rice (who he says is “my kind of captain”).
He probably didn’t say it as directly or forcefully as the media are implying. They tend to take every comment from a former player, and no matter how gently the player put it the media will exaggerate it. But equally, criticism of Ode isn’t going to help his confidence or form. And there’s something to be said for the quieter, more discrete captain approach that he offers.
I don’t actually think a captain will make or break a team, in reality they are the figureheads but the team does benefit from having a leadership group which we clearly see with different senior members being mentors to younger or newer players.
But yeah Tone is entitled to his opinion but it’s a bit uncalled for.
Are our players this ass? Lokonga got 0 minutes whole pre-season and not even league two clubs want him? Reiss is probably 26 and is still going about being loaned to clubs where he gets inevitably injured.
I’d say I’m more desirable to women than our players are to clubs across the football pyramid.
The problem with Reiss (apart from his injury record) is that I think he’s only got one more year on his contract. And because of that combination, no sane club is going to spring for a big transfer. They will just wait it out for a year and then get him on a free.
