I was thinking about making a “People like this” post about sloppy redaction and using the same screenshot.

41·2 months agoNot allowing investment properties is different than not allowing eyesores. I don’t think you want to keep prices down by letting the place go to shit.

611·2 months agoYeah, they would say NIYBY to your garbage pile. And that could make their homes more desirable to buy and live in (“keep housing prices up”). Definitely don’t want that.

1013·2 months agoGood thing you don’t live under an HOA. They are authoritarian pricks who go around telling people they can’t pile up trash in their yards where it is visible to others.

9·3 months agoYou know things are good in New Zealand when it’s a story that people were mean to a public figure online.

Mildly Infuriating@lemmy.world•Dude read the rules of woman only community and decided to post anyway
91·3 months agoIt’s not about the grammar. It’s the underlying mindset that might lead to specific word choices. If someone exclusively refers to women as bitches, that may be because they don’t hold much respect for women.
More subtly, if someone always refers to women as girls but rarely to men as boys, it could be telling us that they think of women as immature and less like fully formed adults.
For the word females, it’s more subtle again. It would be normal to refer to animals as male and female. For people we have the gender-specific terms man and woman. If you refer to women as females but not men as males, you may be revealing an underlying dehumanizing attitude. This is corroborated by what seems to be a common trope of incels calling women females.

15·3 months agoThanks. I’m not saying the poster is an incel. I’m just saying the objection to misuse of “female” has been primed by incels (and Ferengi). Without incels, there wouldn’t be such a knee jerk revulsion to it.

91·3 months agoOk. I somehow missed that. I scanned for other uses of “female” a few times but was blinded to the one right next to coworker.

11917·3 months agoIncel behavior includes using “female” as a noun when talking about women. Using “female” as an adjective is perfectly normal and common. It is fine to write “female coworker” instead of “coworker who is a woman.”

2·4 months agoIf she lives in a patriarchal society, then the culture doesn’t allow her to truly consent to giving up her milk for anyone but her own consumption, and that’s assuming she doesn’t do work or volunteering that somehow furthers the patriarchy.
Or something unhinged like that.
I note you didn’t attack the substance of what was said, just who it was paraphrasing.

Mildly Infuriating@lemmy.world•Stephen Miller: Secretary Kennedy is one of the world's foremost experts on public health. He is working hard to restore the credibility of the CDC as a scientific organization
11·6 months agoThis is a tangent, but I’m curious how many people who uncritically supported Kennedy’s environmental efforts are rethinking the accuracy of his claims based on what they know is wrong about his public health claims.
What’s the difference between evil pharma pushing deadly vaccines and evil chemical companies polluting our environment? There are historically proven incidents of both (if we expand vaccine to medical treatments in general), but how many of the specific cases he made against companies were contrived bullshit pushed by cranks? Take fluoridation for a less controversial example among educated people.
I’m keeping spelling corrections for the whole thread to a single comment to resuce clutter.
