That’s the best part of Larian games, the replay ability. They are so many different ways to play the game and get different results. Divinity: Original Sin 2 is like that. I must have replayed it 20 times. Each time I discovered something new.

Did you poison the beer at the back of the area? If you do that then most of them die off and the rest are at low health.
