Yeah, you should. What country are you in?

Ah, the sweet ring of Goodhart’s law striking again.
You’re absolutely not saving your kids this way.
Yikes, that’s a long time to be stuck in what sounds like an abusive family dynamic. I’m so sorry.
I’m guessing you’ve looked into any possible alternative routes to an ID?

Asklemmy@lemmy.ml•It is now 89 seconds to midnight. Closest it's ever been. How concerned are you about global war?
9·4 days agoReminder that they basically changed the scale in the 90’s, when history was supposed to be over. It’s higher now than during the damn Cuban missile crisis, not because we’re somehow closer, but because of a kind of ratchet effect as a very baseline Cold War level of tension returns.

Asklemmy@lemmy.ml•How large would a pool have to be for you to swim in it if there is also a corpse in the pool?
1·7 days agoIf I have to swim with a corpse I think I’d rather something large than a bird. No chance of it floating up to me by surprise.

7·7 days agoFor fun? Uhh, kilometers. It needs to be far enough away to become abstract. And I do find the ocean slightly gross and pest-ridden already.
For a good reason, like someone is paying me? A bathtub if fresh, typical public pool size if not, and I’m showering right after.

Asklemmy@lemmy.ml•If a Great Depression happened again, would people still stand together like they did during the penny auctions?
4·7 days agoEverything is a lot more urban now, which is a big thing that would get in the way. A farmer in the great depression would have been seeing and getting to know their neighbors a damn lot, and outsiders couldn’t exactly take a rip out on a highway to bid, either.
That’s actually a lower education level than than for all Canadians, IIRC. Which is interesting, since the vibe definitely is that everyone here is in STEM.
And yes, the author definitely surveyed their own instance and not all of Lemmy.

1·9 days agoWell, you can put your DNS requests over the proxy as well, so kinda a skill issue. I don’t know if people do though - you’re the professional.

Technology@beehaw.org•Study Boldly Claims 4K And 8K TVs Aren't Much Better Than HD To Your Eyes, But Is It True?
11·9 days agoNow that I’ve actually looked at the study, what they did is make an apparatus with continuously adjustable distance to display and try to get people to distinguish scaled, fairly similar clips until they couldn’t anymore.
Actual maximum pixel-per-visual-degree values varied quite a bit based on colours involved and the like. And like @GenderNeutralBro@lemmy.sdf.org said, they framed the results the opposite way to the article - human vision can distinguish more than previously thought.

12·10 days agoA link to the study, because I don’t think I see one in this very clickbait-feeling source.

8·10 days agoIt sounds like the study actually did include display distance, and gave different requirements depending.

1·10 days agoThat seems like a failure on their part. Buy more exit IPs.

If that seems like a self-perpetuating problem, it’s because it is.

Asklemmy@lemmy.ml•How often do you get "Fake" lucid dreams vs. Real lucid dreams?
2·17 days agoHmm. I’ve never been able to control the dream around me with any accuracy, but I can always control my own actions.

3·17 days agoOP knew they were dreaming, which is the main requirement.

Asklemmy@lemmy.ml•If you had to choose a new _lingua franca_, what language would you pick?
1·17 days agoYup. Jurisdiction is very important, but a lot of people seem to have never considered it.
And if you’re not aware, Saudi is still a medieval-style absolute monarchy with public beheadings for, like, adultery. (And a valued Western ally)
