Linux@lemmy.ml•In regard to Hyprland and Fascism
167·6 months agoThis is akin to MAGA calling the pope marxist cuz he disagrees with them, some people are so one-dimensional its comical, you cant fight stupidity with stupidity, this is how actual fascists justify all of their extremist views, extremism just encourages extremism on the other side and gives those who are indoctrinated a bigger reason to support their indoctrinators. Tunnel vision is one crazy phenomenon 🤡
Regardless of his views I’ll continue using it and supporting it. People will find anything good and look for a reason to ruin it grow tf up.

166·7 months agoThey literally work for the Fediverse branch of meta, sure its an evil corp and zucks intentions aren’t exactly pure (more than likely an effort to lower server costs) but it is something likely to put more eyes onto the fediverse which I definitely think will benefit the fediverse in the long run.

Linux@lemmy.ml•I have used Windows all my life, and I have some questions.
3·7 months agoIt’s literally be just as simple as choosing a distro, preferably a just works one or something thats piss easy to install like Linux Mint, Fedora or OpenSuse.
Then you choose your Desktop Environment, from which you can choose either KDE Plasma, XFCE, GNOME or the new COSMIC desktop environment (still currently in beta so not recommended js yet) which you can choose when installing your distro or while choosing your distro. You can always change it once you’ve chosen.
KDE Plasma’s infinitely customisable, yet also really user friendly, with a lot of incredible software included by default, including phone compatibility software similar to what you’ll find in apple’s ecosystem. XFCE’s really lightweight and power efficient. GNOME’s very macOS like by default, being a lot less customisable than KDE but really user friendly. They each have their own versions of software.
You should know what your distro’s package manager is and how to use it, which is basically what you use to install updates and install and uninstall software. That’s literally the only thing you’ll need to use your terminal for, it’s basically just a text based file manager which can run programs/software. That’s basically it, just make sure to frequently update your system, they are voluntary unlike Windows updates and don’t require reboots or crash your system, and you should be good.

Privacy@lemmy.ml•What to do if border police ask to search your phone
14·7 months agoRegardless of what you or anyone has on your phone that is, in any context dystopian and authoritarian asf, there’s already been cases of people being detained by US border authorities for anything anti-govt. found on their devices. It’s like Trump read 1984 and thought it was an instruction manual.
Worst part is he’s disguising himself as a libertarian and someone who’s pro free-speech, when his ideas of libertarianism only extend to his govt. and cronies and his ideas of freedom of speech extend to his own views and his own supporters. He’s using the guise of being censored himself to censor literally anyone who opposes him.
On another note, for those who don’t care abt using free software, or don’t care about privacy cuz they have “nothing to hide”. Think about how much power the US govt. has over data collecting corps. like Microsoft, Google and apple, now think abt how much power a man like Trump can give himself over the US govt. How much control do u rlly have over your own devices? If there’s no way to truly, freely express yourself without govt. interference then there is no democracy.

Linux@lemmy.ml•Recommend a distro for a 13-year-old gamer
46·8 months agoMajority of AAA games run invasive software like kernel-level anticheat, I’d personally recommend js buying him a PS5 or running them in VMs (Linux or windows).
Frameworks are the best modern laptop by far imo.
