Asklemmy@lemmy.ml•Would you buy a Smart Glass in the foreseeable future?
6·2 months agoLiterally the only thing I would want “smart” glasses to do is play videos or show messages from select apps. Ditch the shitty camera, don’t ever connect to an “AI” service, and for the love of god, don’t be made to lock into a big tech company…

Asklemmy@lemmy.ml•Tomorrow you wake up with the power of Superman for 48 hours, what's on your to do list?
65·5 months agoFirst I would get myself paid. Then I would drop a big rock on DC and credit reporting companies. Probably take out a bunch of healthcare insurance companies. Spend a few hours looking up companies responsible for the most pollution/human rights violations and remove them. Drop a big rock on the Kremlin and CCCP headquarters, probably North Korea too. Lots of big rocks dropped from really high.
about 20 years ago. Early 2000s I started messing around with Redhat and was suprised that a full OS that did most of the windows things was available for free. when Ubuntu gained traction I jumped on that and tried distro hopping a bit before landing aolidly on Debian derivatives as my linux of choice. I remember catching a ban in WoW because WINE was detected by their anti cheat for a while.
When I said 3rd party I meant non mojang jars, not hosting providors
Not when compared to the third party servers. Not only do they run better but they give the option of using plugins or mods to further improve performance and enhance gameplay.

Linux@lemmy.ml•Challenge : The most convoluted way to run a Windows app ?
42·10 months agoI don’t remember the exact process but I ran Linux on computer A and windows on computer B. I installed windows onto a second drive on computer B and set Virtual box on computer A to use that drive as its boot drive over the network. I then shared the primary drive as well so I could boot computer B into either Windows install and run the other as a VM on Computer A.
I have no idea why I did this but it worked and no one was impressed.

Asklemmy@lemmy.ml•What is the legitimate use-case for generative AI?
9·10 months agoI use it to help with programming and writing. Not as a way to have something so it for me but as something that can show me how to do something I am stuck on or give me ideas when Im drawing a blank.
Kinda like an interactive rubber duck. Its solutions arent always right or accurate but it does help me get past things I struggle with.

Linux@lemmy.ml•With all this ghostty talk. Am I out of touch for still using terminator all these years?
4·11 months agoFrom a look at the documentation it’s just a fancy terminal. If you don’t really care about theming or image rendering then it’s not something you need. If you’re trying to rice a UI like hyprland then it looks like a good option.
Personally, I don’t see much added value over whatever the default terminal is but I’ve never been one to mess with things that do what they are supposed to.

Asklemmy@lemmy.ml•What's a luxury that would break you if were no longer able to have it?
12·11 months agoClean water on demand
I had a hell of a time trying to use Gmail and exchange email from the terminal clients I tried. Mostly because of security features. I never got it working but aerc looked really nice.
Llama does have some details on GitHub about this. According to them, no, it does not send data anywhere. You can also monitor network traffic to watch for it sending anything it shouldn’t. If you don’t want to do that, firewall it.

Selfhosted@lemmy.world•Am I being held back by using casaos?English
5·1 year agoIf you want to learn more, then you will need to move away from casa. Casa is pretty much just a collection of custom docker images that play well together and with their interface. You could grab an old computer, install Linux, and do more but you would expend more time and effort.

Asklemmy@lemmy.ml•Any recommendations for making a free or low-cost wiki for personal projects? (NOT Fandom though)
3·1 year agoI’ve been thinking about this as well for TTRPG notes and info for myself and others. I have a few raspberry pi laying around and it should be pretty easy to get something like Mediawiki (the same thing Wikipedia uses)some other wiki engine running on one.

Linux@lemmy.ml•There are sane people with this many VMs on a personal machine, right? RIGHT?
3·1 year agoNah, most of the windows ones don’t get updates any more and the Linux ones can get a script that updates on boot. Takes longer to start up but handles the job itself.

Nothing all self contained like that but you can replicate it with most tiling window managers, a few terminal anpps, and some configurations.
