You could run Kodi, Emby, or Plex and get local access through DLNA access.

I have a QNAP RAID set up that Emby catalogs and handles access for. An Emby app on my LG TV, and a Roku on other TVs. Some RAID systems will just plug into your network and allow you to install apps on them directly.

Another option is to use MediaMonkey to catalog and provide access. They even have an Android app.

Lastly, regular external HDD are meant for occasional access, not continuous work. Most have a duty cycle of about 25%, meaning they should only be run about that amount of time before dying. This is why I went with NAS HDDs. If you have the money, go with an expandable RAID. Once you start using that capacity, you’ll find you want more.

  • I like this part from part 2. It shows an evolution of gods.

Early on, the god of Genesis sometimes is referred to using a plural—Elohim. (El is a god in the Caananite pantheon, and Hebrew-Christian angels retain his name imbedded within theirs: Micha-el; Gabri-el; Rapha-el; Uri-el; Jophi-el.)

Fitzgerald: Not to mention the land of Isra-el.

Tarico: Yes! Later, Jehovah or YHWH appears to be a national god, one in a pantheon of many. (An excavated inscription addresses the goddess Asherah alongside YHWH as his consort.) In the Ten Commandments, YHWH forbids his people to worship the other Canaanite gods, but doesn’t say they don’t exist. “You shall have no other gods before me.”[2] Ignoring the commandment, the Israelites make offerings to his enemy, Baal, the storm god, and are punished. Later still, as monotheism solidifies, one song of praise simply swaps in the name of Jehovah for the name of Baal. The whole trajectory is visible right there in the Old Testament.

  • My response to where my non-religious morality comes from is as follows

Humans are a gregarious species. We prefer to remain in a herd/pack. In this context, I will be using the terms herd and pack interchangeably. So, you can see this starts out with a herd mentality. Morality is doing what is best for the herd. Now comes the definition of what a herd is. As a child, you’re heard would be your immediate family. Once you become a teenager, this includes your close friends. As an adult, it may encompass associates, or even far-flung people that you rarely come into contact with but whose company you enjoy. A fully evolved human, in my opinion, is one who recognizes the herd encompasses all of humanity.

We already operate very much along these lines, only instead of heard we call it society. Occasionally, we run across a member of the herd who presents a danger to the herd as a whole. These individuals we exile, sometimes temporarily, sometimes permanently. On rare occasions, we decide that this person will be an ongoing threat to the well-being of the herd and exile is not sufficient. These individuals we pass a final judgment upon.

There is no need for a deity, godhead, or other divine reason for morality. You might even say that this definition meets the instruction, “be excellent to each other”.

There is no set ritual or procedure for either burying or burning the Quran to dispose of it. There are no prescribed words, actions, or special people who need to be involved. Disposing of the Quran may be done by anyone, but should be done with an intention of respect.

In many Muslim countries, local mosques take charge of collecting such materials for disposal. Mosques often have a bin in which anyone can drop off old Qurans or other materials upon which Quran verses or Allah’s name have been written. In some non-Muslim countries, nonprofit organizations or companies will arrange for disposal. Furqaan Recycling is one such organization in the Chicago area.

It should be noted that all of the above pertains only to the original, Arabic text of the Quran. Translations into other languages, like English, are not considered to be Allah’s words, but rather an interpretation of their meaning. Therefore it is not necessary to discard translations in the same way unless they also contain the Arabic text. It is recommended to treat them respectfully nevertheless.
