Thanks for claryfing. I’m not well versed in using git, but does the PR mean that all the work to change the pronouns was already done? All the owner of the repo had to do was accept the changes?
I didn’t find any specifics in that article. What does it mean that the documentation was asked to be more gender neutral? I can’t think of any gendered documentation I have read from any other projects.
They also reused Pyramid Head. Silent Hill 2 became so iconic in the series that they just brought things specific to James’s experience into other games. There’s been a lot of criticism of that, but also a lot of fans dont seem to mind. Even the original designer of Pyramid Head was disappointed that the character was reused in later games because he designed the character to appear as a manifestation in James’ mind specifically and so the final design was based on James himself. I personally still enjoy the later games myself, but after all of this was pointed out to me I can’t not see it when playing the games or watching the movies lol
I liked the movie when it came out and can still enjoy it today. I think the monsters are some of the creepiest in any horror movie. The janitor scene gives me nightmares. However, there was a lot of fan service that didn’t need to be included. Yes Pyramid Head is the most recognizable character in the series, but he really served no purpose being in the movie. Also, the design of the nurses being “sexy” doesn’t make sense. They were designed that way for James in the second game. That was how he saw them. I think they did a really good job for what they managed to pull off from that movie though. I hope they do well with the new one.
I agree games often come with features that are worthy of complaint. I really don’t think the parry feature that this author speaks on is one of them though. At least not in their given examples. I’ll admit I have not yet played Clair Obscur, but the other example given was of Dishonored, a game the author claims is beloved to them. I’ve played Dishonored 1 and 2 several times over. It is an extremely re-playable series because it offers players a multitude of ways to go about each mission. The parry feature of that game is in no way necessary for many play styles. Forgetting the fact that you can play through the game as a pacifist, parrying isn’t even necessary if you wanted to charge every enemy head on as a blood-thirsty maniac.
The author talks about i-frames and hitboxes as if those concepts can’t enter into a conversation with casual gamers. Its ok, if you want to play a game that doesn’t require a lot of thought when it comes to those two things, but there are tons of games that fit that bill. Even ones that have parry mechanics like Batman and Spiderman games. It’s the equivalent of saying that double jumping is a bad mechanic because its not physically possible in real life, so it doesn’t belong in video games… Oh wait the same author said that too! Under a picture of Elden Ring of all games!
tldr; The author specifically complains about 100% optional mechanics that in no way affect one’s ability to play the game otherwise.
I dont understand why some people think every video game should be catered to their playstyle preferences. It’s ok to not like every single video game. It’s ok if some people like video games that you dont like. Just play what you like and ignore the rest. It’s so easy.
We can circle back to this debate when anonymity is the weapon in a mass murder.
Plenty of people do that with their personal information on full display.
In what way is anonymity bad on the internet?
Where i live 9/10 they dont even have a hitch installed.
I would argue they are worse! I had iPhones and a MacBook Pro for years. Switched to Android, Windows, and Linux. Apple is great for people who want a device that just works out of the box, but those devices can’t be tweaked to better fit your personal needs. Many features that have been present on personal devices for decades are blocked on Apple devices. They even make up terms like “side loading” so it sounds like you are doing something immoral. Downloading an application from whatever source of your choosing should be #1 feature of any device. As far as I know, you can only download apps from Apple’s own store now. All iPhone browsers are reskinned Safari. Apple refuses to adopt existing standards so that users feel inclusive when they see blue texts over green. The list feels endless…
I’m late to the party, but I don’t think there is anything wrong with asking someone to talk a bit about their self in an attempt to get to know them better. The context is very important however. If you and this person have been talking one on one for a bit already, maybe something like “I have enjoyed talking to you, can I ask you to tell me a bit about yourself so I can get to know you better?” Is an appropriate way to go about it. I’m not sure if the person you are talking about is someone you met in real life or on the internet.
As far as the internet goes, a/s/l was a very popular question to ask 20 years ago in chat rooms but probably wouldn’t go as well on modern social media. For that reason I don’t think straight up asking “can you describe yourself in a paragraph” would work very well either. Most people dont seem to use social media as a way to get to know the other users on a personal level. It almost feels like it’s against the point of ‘social’ media, but most interactions I’ve seen between users are brief and users go on their way after a few posts. Especially sites like Lemmy where we don’t provide personal information. On the other hand, Lemmy is very small and if you find someone with a shared interest in a niche community, i think its ok to reach out, but maybe try to just keep the conversation on that topic.
If you’re talking to someone in real life maybe try the previous suggestion. Or skip it all together and invite them to hang out somewhere. No better way to learn about a person than by spending time with them. And by doing that, there is less of a chance of making them uncomfortable by talking about their self.
I saved a few hundred dollars on textbooks with Z-Library. I’ve been impressed with their mobile app too!
I haven’t tried super hard, but season 5 of Tim and Eric’s Aweseome Show Great Job is the only one I can’t get. I found one torrent, but there are no seeders.
I also have that exact story. Got a bunch of drugs, hired a prostitute. After she left, took a crazy concoction I thought for sure would kill me. I’ll never forget what I thought was my last breath. All I could feel was immense regret. My brain kept reminding me of all the little things I had to live for that for some reason I couldn’t think of at any moment before. I woke up the next day feeling like death, but I’ve never felt better to be alive. 7 years later and I remember it all like it was yesterday. I would never recommend anyone to go to that length to feel something, but I understand why it happens. Unfortunately too many people take that final breath and don’t wake back up. Find a good therapist to talk to. If that’s not an option then a family member or friend. The people who share that story all got lucky to a degree. If you don’t feel you have anyone if your life to reach out to, feel free to reach out to me or any trusted community you find on the internet. It may seem silly to talk to a complete stranger on the internet in that way, but there are an overwhelming number of real people here and not just bots lol.
I learned how to play with keyboard and mouse with World of Warcraft. Current retail WoW is terrible in my opinion but plenty of good private servers exist. Turtle WoW is great. MMOs do use more than just the basic wasd keys, but aside from those and the 1-0 keys, there is no rush to mash keys quickly. The rest of the keyboard is basically just hot keys to open up windows and menus. It helped me learn to be versatile with keyboard/mouse without being punishing when starting out.
Not sure if it’s still the case, but I recall my instance had a phrase hidden within the rules page that you had to find and include in your application.
There’s another comment in this thread that points out how slippery a slope it becomes when you try to apply breeds to humans, but that is kind of the idea isn’t it? You seem to accept it in the case of dogs. Either way, I don’t really have a hard stance either way, was just more curious of your reasoning.
I work at a hospital and most of the patients there are definitely older than dirt people getting surgeries just to extend their life a few years or even months. Most of the time it is family members making those decisions because they don’t want or know how to say goodbye. We have had patients that effectively died, but the family insists on keeping their organs alive with machines in the hopes that they wake up.
As for the meaning of life? I think it is 100% to entertain ourselves until death. Even if there was a greater meaning created by some deity, we’re probably not able to understand it anymore than a donkey could understand calculus. I personally could never trust any human to tell me who or what god is and/or wants. And god has yet to reveal theirself to me…
