What extra logistics? Passenger birth dates are recorded at time of booking and with the exception of southwest, seats are assigned ahead of time. It would be trivial for the booking software to limit where certain age groups can be assigned. Most airlines already allow passengers with infants to board before everyone else so there’s time to deal with carseats/strollers.

Every airline already excludes young children from exit row seats, so clearly the logistics involved are already solved.

I’m not necessarily advocating for that policy, but I fail to see how it would be difficult to enact. The resulting discrimination lawsuits would probably be the most onerous part.

  • No, never. Current charging rates already get close to thermal constraints. Hitting those charging rates either requires accepting much lower power density or using way more metal per cell. This research might inform design changes to improve charging rates, but we’ll never see high capacity batteries charging in a minute.

The researchers know this and only mention wearables and iot devices applications. The article author erroneously makes the leap to high energy density devices.

If you don’t care about energy density at all, ceramic capacitors can already charge and discharge in microseconds.

  • It does seem like something that could be worth just trying. I can’t imagine the seeds/nuts would cost much. So if you already have grow bags there’s not much to lose by experimenting with it.

Do you have a balcony that gets some direct light? I tried balcony growing in a northwest facing apartment balcony. It was enough to keep some things alive, but not enough light to actually get much flowers or fruits. I definitely appreciate your frustration.

That was one of our main motivations to buy a house tbh. So many plants never truly thrive in containers, and spending hundreds on grow lights to grow $10 worth of food is hard to justify.

  • Oh for sure. I do my best to avoid Amazon because most listings are full of made up lies. I know marketing is full of half truths and exaggerations, but I despise shopping at places that try so hard to deceive me.

I just brought up Amazon since Amazon and monoprice are the most common options I see mentioned when people ask for alternatives to the overpriced options at best buy or whatever.

Industrial suppliers can be more expensive, but the time and aggravation saved by shopping by specifications you can trust is frequently worth a modest price premium. I’ve switched to Digikey and McMaster for a number of personal purchases after realizing how much of a mental toll deceptive marketplaces carry.
