  • I grew up in the south.

Sunday dress was a thing. Modern day, it may not have been as special because you didn’t wear the same two outfits all year. But it’s still different from funeral and wedding attire.

Sunday meals were special too. Maybe we didn’t always go out for food after church, but guarantee there was BBQ involved. If not BBQ, then fried, and/or with a salad filled with carbs and mayo.

Uh, speaking of Sunday, you could say being a Christian is a big cultural thing. My family rebelled a bit, we were Catholic.

Don’t bother Daddy while he’s watching his sports. Don’t put more work on mommy (no dirty clothes, keep your shoes clean). Mowing the lawn takes all day because we live in the boonies (or you don’t have a lawn because you live in a triplex).

All holidays are Christian. And you spend them with extended family.

There is a melting point experiment I did in a college chemistry lab that involved melting glass tubing just to the point that we could stretch it to create a much thinner tube. Glass (depending on type) melts at a much higher temperature than what you’re using here for splicing, so that might be an easier and more reusable method for you?

Edit: search for “glass delivery tube”, should get you to what we used. Make sure it’s borosilicate and not polycarbonate

  • I’ve been no contact for almost the same amount of time, so I’ll tell you how I’d feel in the same boat.

My dad had no backbone to protect me while I was in his house, and he didn’t bother trying to stay in my life after I left. He may not have done the abuse, but he definitely allowed it to happen due to inaction. I am always going to miss the parents I thought I had, but it won’t add anything positive to my life to have contact again.

He is a stranger in a familiar coat

  • Sentencing isn’t always done at the same time a verdict is given. Often a judge will take time to research the punishments available in the law. Sometimes they’ll take advice on a person’s character, and consider the level of remorse the convict has for the crimes.

There was a small public outcry last year when a celebrity was convicted of sex crimes, and other celebrities known for their work against sex trafficking wrote to the judge to ask for leniency. It made the news because famous people were involved, but it’s a common occurrence.

He also wanted to wait to see what the Supreme Court would rule in the presidential immunity case, and I honestly can’t blame the man for delaying indefinitely following the results of that. This judge and his family received a lot of death threats and harassment from Trump’s supporters, but he also had to consider that Trump is immune to whatever crimes he chooses to commit in office.
