I’m sure you like being able to use your cell phone and wifi without it being an unusable mess of different technologies all trying to use the same frequencies.

When an aspect of technology becomes far reaching enough that it effects essentially everyone and every device, and there are far reaching consequences to it not being interoperable, then that’s exactly the type of situation where it’s good for government to work with experts in the field and decide on an official enforced standard

Phones play movies. If they make the seatback system annoying then people will just stop using it and download movies from Netflix or wherever

Sorry, i deleted my comment like 10 seconds after posting because i googled it and saw i was incorrect. A few years ago Apple added a camera APP to the watch that remote controls your phone camera, but didn’t actually add a camera to the watch. I misremembered, my bad

Yup this is the answer. In the past people had put on black makeup and did horribly awful racist caricatures of black people. As a result putting on black makeup itself came to mean you’re doing racist stuff. IMO i think that far in the future if racism is eliminated then people will be able to put on dark makeup and it’ll be seen as fine. But none of us reading this sentence are gonna be alive to see that point

I’m thinking it would be helpful to explicitly state your boundaries before even agreeing to play the game. Something like this:

“There are some board games i like and some i don’t. I’d be glad to give it a try if you’re ok with me deciding I don’t like it after 10 minutes and dropping out. Also i don’t enjoy playing board games that take longer than an hour to finish, so I’d be happy to play as long as you’re cool with me dropping out of the game if it goes on longer than an hour.”

If you explain clear boundaries to them before starting play then they know what to expect when those boundaries are reached

A global communities search that’s integrated into all lemmy software. Meaning like i would go to a communities search bar and type “politics” and it’ll show me all /politics communities on all instances, sorted by subscriber count.

And all communities should have a button right up at the front that’s labeled “see similar communities”, which would take you to that search result page.

Apparently the search part of what i said already exists, but it’s hard to find and requires techie skills to make it function the way i described. So the feature should be made easier to find and should default to an all-instances search instead of a local server search. And a “see similar communities” button should be added to automatically get to it.
