Only ever had one, kinda. Though I’m not sure I’d call it comfortable? But it’s… visceral, which is mildy amusing because it’s trying to be cerebrial, but too much of the dialogue is just scattered quotes and philosophy references. Anyways, the movie is Ghost in the Shell: Innocence. The second one that was directed by Mamoru Oshii. These days, I don’t get anything out of watching it anymore. I watched it one too many times. But I’ve never taken to any movie like I did that one, so, it wins.

Asklemmy@lemmy.ml•what's the most mundane hill you're willing to die on?
9·5 days agoThe movie, Aliens, plural, the James Cameron one, is utter trash. It is not a sci-fi hallmark of any sort. It is garbage that is a total slog to watch and should be lauded as terrible taste from the 80s. Even the much shat on AvP franchise, with it’s especially looked down on Requiem, is better than the shit Cameron shat out.
The classic style MMO, laden with hotkeys and hotbars, fetch quests, and grindingly gathering resources, needs to be taken 'round the barn and shot. This includes such megahits from WoW to FFXIV.
Dark Souls/Elden Ring was never good, and was only ever “okay,” at best, and never worth full price.
I’ll take my downvotes, now, thanks.

Asklemmy@lemmy.ml•If a pill could give you someone else's memories and skills but erase a year of your life, would you take it? What would you pick and why?
5·5 days agoPTSD and trauma victims gobbling the pills like mad, the skills are just a bonus
I’d give away two years for expert knowledge in two areas: a painter and illustrator artist, and a successful stock broker. Fuck off from work and win at the market to cover expenses, spend the rest of my time creating whatever the hell I want with my art.
My mind seems to favor the negative memories, focuses on them, and I forget the good ones as they are no longer referenced. So I really don’t care which years I lose.
My negative thoughts, mostly. Even if you don’t believe in do-gooder fallacious platitudes like “If you can’t say anything nice, don’t say anything at all,” the truth of the matter is it eases social instances to just not bring negativity to the table unless it’s really needed (which is usually to shut someone down who’s being an asshole, or seriously weighing pros and cons of something.)

Asklemmy@lemmy.ml•Do you think Trump will fall because of the new Epstein emails?
34·5 days agoNo. I think it will get far less coverage than it should, will get pushed out of the news cycle early, and Trump won’t be held accountable. The only way anything happens is that someone who’s pissed off makes another assassination attempt and lands the shot this time.
I attribute it like the line, “Your scientists were so preoccupied with whether or not they could, that they didn’t stop to think if they should.” Just because someome is brainy and knows a lot of specialized facts doesn’t mean they’ll always make wise decisions.

And then take Message as a cantrip because you rolled High Elf lineage. Become the single greatest reconnaissance member your party has ever seen.

Asklemmy@lemmy.ml•Why are people afraid of commitment in relationships?
11·14 days agoI mean, in my own case, I’m such a bloody mess I couldn’t really recommend someone be in a long term relationship with me. Or nothing too deep, anyway. I’d feel like I’d drag them down. But all that aside, the biggest reason I can think of to be hesitant about commitment is that, in commiting, you will find yourself having to give up control of your life at times and making comprises for the other person’s sake. Where as if you are non-comittant, you will have more autonomy to lead your life how you wish.

Sync for Lemmy@lemmy.world•Am I the only one holding on due to c/hope, habit, and momentum?English
4·14 days agoI’m in a similar boat as you. I admittedly doomscroll too much, so I always want a ton of content. I’ll cycle through New, Hot, Most Active, and Top: Day on Lemmy via the Sync app first, then switch to reddit for a little while before checking New on Lemmy again. Lemmy may not have the population of Reddit yet, but it’s community comments is no where near as frustrating to read through and it’s much more varied in topics than reddit’s modern /all.
Hoping to wean myself off Reddit entirely.
I’m not, but a friend is. With a couple, actually. He’d inevitably wind up sleeping with them now and again, and at this point one has just become a fuck buddy with no real relationship attached. But really, it’s your own dynamics that matter here, and that’s between you and that person. So how anything winds up going, well, the one’s most qualified to make best guesses are you and them.
Dude, you completely left out Abraham. Which is wild given that Judaism, Christianity, and Islam are all referred to as Abrahamic faiths. While Abraham was descended from Adam and Eve, it is far more accurate to say Israelites trace their heritage back to Abraham. This is because it is Abraham that makes the first covenant pact with God.
Abraham gives birth to two sons. At first, Abraham’s wife is barren, so to have a kid they all agree Abraham knock up his servant. This gives birth to Ishmael. Fourteen years later, Abraham’s wiife finally manages to miraculously conceive, and Isaac is born. And there’s this whole deal where god puts Abraham to the test and tells Abraham he has to sacrifice Isaac to him. And both of them go along with it only for God to go, “Nevermind, guys, it was a test. But since you’ve pleased me by being so faithful, I’ll grant you a powerful line through Isaac (Israel),” and God then sends them a ram to sacrifice instead.
Isaac gives birth to two sons, Esau and Jacob, twins, but Esau was born first. Technically, God’s blessing is his by birthright. Isaac favors Esau, Isaac’s wife favors Jacob. Jacob gains the birthright twice over. Once because Esau returns to camp, hungry as hell one day and just casually trades his birthright to Jacob in return for some lentil stew. Second, when Isaac is pretty much on his death bed, and blind, Isaac’s wife and Jacob trick Isaac into blessing Jacob instead of Esau. Initially, Esau is pissed and Jacob flees. But he eventually comes back and reconciles with his brother and wrestles God (I’m not kidding.) Then his name gets changed from Jacob to Israel. Dude marries two wives, one of which is his sister, and gives birth to twelve sons, which become the twelve tribes of Israel. There’s also a daughter, but this is a patriarchal religion so women don’t matter. This is basically where the Jew as Jews start.
Now, rewinding back a bit, remember that Ishmael guy, born of the servant Abraham knocked up? Yeah, so he and the servant got sent away. But God also promises this servant and Ishmael that Ishmael too, will give birth to a great nation, and that he will have 12 sons himself that will become princes. And it is Islam, specifically, the prophet Muhammed, who traces their roots back to Ishmael. That’s how fucking old the whole Jew/Muslim conflict is.
And then there’s Christianity, which is when some Jew named Jesus was born the son of Virgin Mary and went on to preach love and kindness and got himself sacrificed in a story which really illustrates, once you remove the falsehoods of heaven, hell, and God, that humanity is so crooked they’ll basically kill a man for being too good while praising and pardoning a criminal (Barabbas. He and Christ both get the chance to be pardoned by the people, but they can only choose one. Barabbas is chosen, and Christ gets crucified.) But also yes, as you said, Jesus totally favored the Jews, and did the whole thing with comparing the woman to a dog versus the childeren he was meant to lead (Israelites.)
Lowkey creepy in a completely unorthodox manner. Props.

Made by the Futurama and Simpson guys, a Matt Groening show. More of a fantasy show with heavy comedy than a comedy show. Very, very strong continuity between episodes. This thread reminds me there are probably a new season or two out by now I need to go watch.
I watched this in the wake of K-Pop Demon Hunters. I am not the biggest fan of its animation aesthetic, but I got used to it. What caught me off guard is that the writing is pretty solid. This is also a very strong continuity show, one long plotline. Can you tell my interest in episodic animation is dead, now?
Honestly, it has been a very long time since I’ve watched this, but I feel like it should get a special mention. I dunno if it would stand the test of time, but it was both incredibly refreshing for the time (2004) while also parodying a lot of anime and videogame stuff I loved.
A show I was obsessed with for a few years. Metalocalypse was king of media in my life for a while. I had the first two Dethklok albums on CD. One of my most recent regrets is I had tickets to see Dethklok and Babymetal together in concert and did not go because depression was eating at me, and I just didn’t want to go out. That was so fucking stupid. I want to punch my past self.

Asklemmy@lemmy.ml•You have an unlimited budget to make the worlds first tactical umbrella. What does your umbrella do?
3·20 days ago“Stunbrella” is great. Top name. Slap a flashlight in the bottom of the handle, which can also be unscrewed off to unsheath a tanto-knife styled blade for piercing and prying (the flashlight end would essentially be the handle/pommel of this knife.)

It gave me a sort of feeling I didn’t get from anything else, that I liked. But it’s kind of hard to describe. Like standing on the edge of an epiphany but never quite grasping it.
