Developers should make money. Just not with ads.
Developers should make money. Just not with ads.
That would be a good idea too.
Almost all of Syncs business model is ads. The free version has ads and almost everyone who pays for it is doing so to remove ads. Which is just rewarding the implementation of ads. I also disagree with the concept of profiting from free user content with ads like Reddit does. Which was Reddits primary goal of preventing third party apps. They wanted the ad revenue themselves instead of third parties getting the ad revenue.
The only way this can be acceptable is to not have a free ad version and only have a paid version. That way you are paying for software and not paying to remove ads or profiting from free user content.
When you design a new device from the ground up you make them fit in a way that allows the remaining space to be a single large rectangle to be entirely filled with battery. This might require custom PCB to have some L shapes. If you want to target a specific weight and having that much battery is too heavy then you make the device thinner. Instead it looks like they took pre-existing components from other devices such as Pixel phones or the Google Home and put them in a larger case.
It’s not necessarily a problem that this device exists how it is, but that it is a cheap way to go about it and yet still sold at a premium price.
Yes, but at $500 the profit margins are still huge. This is like a $200 tablet being sold for $500. It probably costs $50 to manufacture.
They are still good for alternative builds of Android such as GrapheneOS. Ideally I wouldn’t support Google at all.
Good to hear they may have changed it. I probably won’t get around to a 2nd play-through assuming I manage to finish my first play-through.
I was trying to romance Lae’zel and was a bit taken aback at how blatant and easy it was. It didn’t seem particularly realistic or well done to me. We were basically just traveling companions and then a single dialogue option was enough to initiate romance. I’ve basically never talked to her before so this seemed rather sudden. Perhaps the games assumes a lot of hidden dialogue that travelers would engage in, but when the rest of the game feels realistic it seems out of place. Maybe she is just the type of person that is really open romantically, but considering others have felt the same way about many of the other characters I suspect this is not the writers intention. Then after having intimate relations it seemed to have no relevance to the story and the character didn’t even care that it happened. The intimate scenes themselves were also rather lackluster and didn’t show anything explicit. I’m not sure why the character creation had you so vividly pick what type of genitals you wanted if it was irrelevant to the intimacy scenes.
Is there a convenient way of doing this? There is no way I can always babysit my device and wait for it to reach 80% and then remove it from the charger.
Longer lifespan? Does this mean they will have user replaceable batteries? I’d consider spending more than $200 on a phone if it could actually be kept in peak condition for more than 4 years.
No, putting ads in software to the point that it is annoying enough to pay someone to make them go away. Selling software without this strategy is respectable.
You have ads on Lemmy though. Which is free and open source software whos developers disagree with the idea of an ad driven internet. Paying for it to remove the ads isn’t any better though as you are rewarding this kind of behavior.
Well that’s one way to do it. 😅
I never reload the game unless my party dies and I have to. I don’t know how much of the game is being locked being bad dice rolls, but whatever.
As a rogue with so much bonus to lockpicking I almost never fail a lockpick. I am accumulating thieves tools like crazy. 😵💫
I’m also convinced these are really just paid for by Apple ads. I’ve never seen anyone care about such a thing.
Delete account and then add facebook to resolve to 127.0.0.1 in your hosts file. 😀
I still get recommendations on the Android Youtube App and my watch history is completely empty and turned off.
The fact that there is an ad version at all as a UI front end to an ad free FOSS back-end is a bit shameful. People buy it because they want to get rid of the ads. If they just sold the software with no free with ad version then they would be acceptable.
It’s not about the cost. It’s the principle of the matter.
I’m not trying to be rude here, but please read my post. Paying to remove ads is part of the ad business model. Anyone who pays to remove ads means the developer profited from ads.
