I can also recommend frigate. It’s an awesome piece of software and it really is what OP wants

That’s kind of the way the whole category works. People are playing cat and mouse with a billion dollar company and are fighting a uphill battle against Googles countermeasures, app store policies and lawsuits. So there is really no perfect app that will work for all time.
I really do not understand what you want to say with your comment. The user here asked for a better alternative than Brave for watching YouTube and PipePipe/NewPipe is exactly what they asked for. They are also not that complicated to install as you seem to suggest, you can simply install them with one touch from an App Store. So what do you want to say here?
Yes, watched a few videos yesterday with PipePipe
Dude, just use NewPipe or PipePipe from Fdroid. They are much better than using the Youtube mobile website.
I wanted to see it and did take a look into your profile: That was one user and he was rightfully criticized and downvoted for that stupid post. It’s not great that this happened, but I’m not sure if it is fair to judge all of us here based on that

Selfhosted@lemmy.world•Alternative to Gmail? I currently use my own domain for email, but i miss the priority inboxEnglish
11·30 days agoYou can do most of that without any fancy AI or machine learning: Since you already have your own domain, setup some mail redirects and filter all mails going into them into subfolders. I have a redirect for onlineshopping where all those order confirmation and delivery informations and unwanted newsletters go. I have another I use for creating accounts - all 2FA etc. are going there. And then I have the main mail for actual communication and another redirect for all those interesting substack newsletters and so on.

Fediverse@lemmy.world•Is posting from #Mastodon to a #Lemmy community a good idea or will this just confuse everyone?English
1·30 days agoEach community has its own culture and each Mastodon poster has his own style - there are communities on Lemmy where a typical Mastodon toot will fit perfectly and there are communities where it will not fit. So try to fit in with your posts into the community you are posting to and everything will be fine

2410·1 month agoYou might not like it, but AI can totally give you a recommendation of similar bands.
Can anyone give any advice on either having it work or a Linux alternative with similar functionality?
The neat thing about installing Linux is that there are live versions around. Go to the Linux Mint site and follow their instructions on creating a bootable USB stick. Boot from it and you’ll have a working system directly on your computer. You can check if your hardware is compatible and you can also install software there. So if you have some doubts about Orca Slicer, just boot up a Linux and check it yourself on your own machine! It’s really that awesome

Fediverse@lemmy.world•How We Lost Communication to EntertainmentEnglish
3·1 month agoYes, I totally would expect that. That is how the UI does work currently: On Pixelfed and Mastodon, you can search for a user and follow that user. To a normal user, it looks like the user is a normal Pixelfed user. And yes, I expect to see all posts of a user I follow.
You might disagree. But the biggest problem is that Pixelfed is not telling you that it is not showing you every post and doesn’t give you the option to see every post. That is bad UI and should be fixed.

41·1 month agoThe bubble might burst, but there are real use cases for AI out there and therefore you will see AI in use even after the current ponzi scheme has collapsed. You can do great voice and handwriting recognition now and speech generation and that won’t go away.

54·2 months agoDrip A tracking free, cloud free and subscription free period tracker. There are a lot of period tracking apps around, but most of them try to push a subscription on their users and putting that data into a cloud can be dangerous in many countries where abortions are forbidden. You know that some judge in Texas wants to have access to that data. Save yourself or the women in your life from subscribtion and tracking hell and switch them over.

Fediverse@lemmy.world•Is Pixelfed sawing off the branch that the Fediverse is sitting on?English
21·2 months agoIt’s totally a problem: If I take a look at my Mastodon account from Pixelfed, there are a lot of screenshots shown and some other random images. Which totally does make sense as I do post stuff like that on Mastodon and screenshots totally make sense there. But if you take them to the center of the stage into a photocentric app, that really does look like shit

Games@sh.itjust.works•Gabe Newell caps off Steam Machine week by taking delivery of a new $500 million superyacht with a submarine garage, on-board hospital and 15 gaming PCsEnglish
1·3 months agoIf you want to fall into an online rabbit hole, search for superyacht security. Those billionaires are spending a lot of money on security and they are totally not keen on getting kidnapped by Somali pirates:
According to a source in the industry, the website Business Insider reported that in a recent foiled plot, an armed pirate group approached a superyacht in the Arabian Sea. However, the pirates were thwarted after the captain deployed sonic weapons and electromagnetic pulse beams that caused severe burns as a countermeasure.
When it was delivered to billionaire Abramovich in 2010, the yacht was valued at 350 million pounds. However, after upgrades and the addition of many modern features, the value of Eclipse is now estimated at around 1.2 billion pounds. The primary factor driving the value of the Eclipse superyacht up is its advanced security system, which includes surveillance radar and a missile defense system along with escape submarines.
Yes, escape submarines (!)

The best thing about this is that it enables you to stop organizing all this paper. I have a little box next to my scanner and everything that is scanned is just getting put on top of the pile. In most cases you never need the original document anyways. But if you need it, you can check Paperless when it was scanned and you will find that document from Feb 2023 in a few seconds.
