Like the anti vaccine movement, many have forgotten the horrors of the past and feel like they can just discard the things that got us to where we are.

We found awesome people at our local gymnastics place that did adult classes
I know you didn’t ask about things that could be wrong, but I just want to make sure you have tried everything before you give up. The US healthcare system (and most healthcare systems, really) are not good at diagnosis for uncommon things. You got something that 20% of the world has? They’ve got you. But if you have an oddly presenting issue, there isn’t really a Dr. House to figure it out.
So I want to make sure you’ve checked the things you can. By the way the lurching going to sleep thing isn’t super uncommon. I twitch dramatically when drifting off to sleep if I have something or someone snuggled up against me, or even if I am on a small couch and my feet touch the ends. Seems like a response to an unfamiliar potential danger the body reacts to.
Anyways, have you moved in the last few years? Maybe there is mold or a small gas leak.
Have you tried dramatically changing your diet? It’s possible you picked up some horrible GI bacteria that your immune system attacks its waste or something. You could try high dose probiotics too. Many people with unrelated seeming symptoms like brain fog see improvements, and it’s an area that is totally understudied.
Did these symptoms start with a covid infection? Long Covid is still very poorly understood and seems to range from post exertion tiredness, to brain fog, and other neurological disorders.
I assume they drew labs to make sure your blood wasn’t high or low in anything. If not, ask what labs they can draw.
I feel like it’s even possible your water supply could be contaminated by something, so maybe switch to bottled water for a bit if you have a suspicion your building you live in may have bad pipes.
I suspect I would die trying all of these things, but if not, and I knew the end was coming, I would seek out and spend as much time as I could doing what was important to me. Before, I would have said hiking the PCT. Now that I am married and have a child I would spend everything I had to make as memorable a trip as I could to spend my last days with them. I might even steal a page from Violet Evergarden and write letters to be delivered to my daughter through various years of her childhood, and of course love letters for my wife.
Ugh now I’m all sad thinking about this. Hope everything turns out okay for you. There’s always things to try. It’s not over till it’s over.
As someone buying a color screen boox soon, I think it’s worth a mention that the battery is MUCH worse on boox because it has to run android. Like, the boox may last a day or two vs the Kindle Paperwhite lasting a couple weeks.
It’s not a huge issue if you are home a lot and can charge, but I love the Paperwhite because it feels like it ALWAYS is charged. It just doesn’t have the color screen so I guess I will have both now, one for comics and one for books.
I will try. This comes up frequently these days with my Trumper friend, so this could be valuable to discuss here.
I think it would be fine for them to compete provided we can ensure a level playing field. I don’t know what that would entail, but studies should be done to get it figured out. Is it a blood draw for testosterone levels (maybe not… sometimes that’s naturally high for either cis gender)? Maybe estrogen? Maybe it’s number of years post transition, though I see difficulty defining the start.
Definitely a tough issue since if we get it wrong and be too accepting or not accepting enough, many athletes will suffer. I would love to hear some more ideas and thoughts on this. I’m tired of getting shot down trying to talk to this guy.
Woah. Never knew that was illegal before. We need that law back.
So I guess that means corporations are actually hoping for a recession so they can “tighten the belt” and fire some workers and the remaining ones will work extra hard to make up the difference. Again.
You’re good on the age. Everyone is different. My wife was more mature than me at that age and was also around six years younger than me. Best decision ever for me to ask her out and eventually marry her. Been together 15 years now and just had our first child and couldn’t be happier.
Yeah bullshit jobs make me annoyed too. Why can I not pump my own gas in your state? “Oh, those people need jobs.” Okay that makes it more annoying to get gas but okay.
But there are jobs that need doing! These people could be building solar panels, working at carbon sequestration, or even just staffing childcare which we desperately need. Why are we wasting our workforce in made up jobs when we have work that needs doing?
My work you get one week the first year. Two weeks for each of the following 6 years, three weeks the 7 years after that, then finally 4 weeks once you have been with the company for 15 years.
If you don’t work for any 30 day period, you are let go and if you work for the company again I’m the future, you restart the benefits back at 1 week vacation.
It’s actually one of the best around. I just hit 15 years and get 4 weeks now. Yay America.
Oh I should mention they now “expect more” out of a 15 year employee so now my evaluations are almost always “barely acceptable”, despite going above and beyond always. They want us to feel like we are lucky to have the job and they could fire us at any time. It gets worse the more benefits they are paying.
American History Tellers. I haven’t listened to many other podcasts so I can’t compare, but it feels like well researched and well told history. I feel like it is filling in the gaps of what was once my least favorite subject.
Probably should learn more world history, not just America, but I’m easing into the subject and America really has a colorful history for our short time so far.
Wasn’t there some kind of pod in another country that just has you breathe a gas as you drift off to sleep and the company comes and gets the pod and your remains later?
I like to help support the production of new stuff to watch. This was great with Netflix for awhile, but I didn’t really like their shows lately, so I canceled them and got an HBO account. It will take me awhile to get through the shows there I want to watch. Then I will cancel and do another, either hulu or paramount or Disney, depending on shows.
I feel like paying for one service is a fair amount still.
Honestly I far prefer outrageous prices for good stuff than “small” monthly fees everything is going to. I’d rather pay $50 than $2 per month. If Lemmy gets as popular as reddit, I will end up using it a ton and $20 really is small for all that.
The yearly fee includes extra features
