You really shouldn’t use your debit card for anything other than withdrawing money at an ATM. Credit cards are safer plus you get rewards.

There was a period in the mid 2000s where every anime con had a group of buff nearly naked guys wearing nothing but a leaf as tribute.

Not sure if that’s still a thing, but it was a big metal contraption that went around your whole head. The pain was unbearable and I had no social life from how weird it looked.

Be it books, comics, manga, fan fiction, anything.English3·2 months agoRereading Ender’s Game. I had first read it when camping years ago and somehow misplaced it when I was 5 pages from the end of the book. I was so salty about it that I never picked up another copy to finish it until now.
I think it’s good that I waited because the political B plot hits home with the state of the world today.
Edit: I finished the book tonight. I was not prepared for that kind of trauma.

Gotta set it on the table for them to retrieve instead.
Kit@lemmy.blahaj.zoneto [Migrated, see pinned post] Casual Conversation @lemm.ee•What product price raise have you really noticed with cost of living going up?English4·2 months agoGround beef prices are wild. I’ve been finding occasional good sales on ground turkey, sometimes even $1.99/lb. I use it as a substitute for ground beef in tacos and such, and it works well enough.
Kit@lemmy.blahaj.zoneto [Migrated, see pinned post] Casual Conversation @lemm.ee•What product price raise have you really noticed with cost of living going up?English7·2 months agoMeat. Chicken thighs used to be 99 cents / lb and ground beef was $2.99 but I’d wait for it to go on sale for $1.99. This was in 2020.
The silver lining is that the price hikes have resulted in eating far less meat. I eat around 1 lb per week of fish, chicken, or turkey (rarely red meat) whereas I used to eat probably half a lb or more daily.

Home is where the pants aren’t.

When I was living in a car I’d wardrive nightly to find Wifi. This was before Wifi was commonly available in public spaces, and household routers often used a default password or no password at all. I’d use it to pirate games and movies to keep myself entertained.
Later I moved into a 4 plex apartment and convinced the neighbors to share one Internet connection. We ran ethernet through walls and across the roof and split the bill.
