  • Yeah my mom convinced me to trade-in my 8 and just get the Pro model.

I have/had a 6, but the battery became extra spicy and I haven’t gotten around to getting a replacement.

My Pixel 2 is still happily kicking though, no swelling and still turns on. Though the battery doesn’t last long at all.

They quoted like $450-$490 for my Pixel 8, but I imagine it’s going to be even less as the screen is still flashing green. Even though they’re doing warranty replacements on the P8 because of that, I’m betting they’re going to use it as an excuse to slash the value off the trade-in.

  • Agreed. I desperately wanted a Pixel phone with 1TB, when I saw that not only is the Pro available in a normal size model this year, BUT with a 1TB option I got excited…until I saw that it adds $500 to the base price of the phone, bringing it to a whopping $1499.

I’m gonna wait and see what the pricing looks like on Black Friday. I was originally wanting to keep my Pixel 8 until support ran out, but I’m already over half full on my 256gb, and my screen is having the green screen issues. I know I can get it warrantied, but the 1tb normal sized Pro is just a tempting option.

  • My first VSO was a clip for this garnish/trim for some blinds my mom had. Due to the way the blinds fit in this specific window, my mom couldn’t use the factory hardware to fix the garnish to the blinds, so for the longest time she was using adhesives which would fail over time. One day (shortly before my printer arrived) the garnish fell again and almost hit my cat, my mom expressed frustration over it, and over how she would have to go by more adhesives. I reminded her that I’m getting a printer, I could just make something that would mount it permanently.

My second one was two mounts for my IKEA lack enclosure. I wanted to make a Nevermore filter, so I needed a power supply. Thanks to working at an electronics lab, I managed to score the power supply from a server rack PC. It’s absolute overkill for this, but it came out looking pretty clean, even modeled in a mounting hole for a simple toggle switch so I can activate the power supply without having to plug/unplug the unit.

  • We have access to a decent amount of tools at the lab, it’s definitely feasible. We tossed around the idea, and honestly I may prefer that to a food dehydrator as all of the dehydrators I’ve seen have a cut off timer whereas the filament dryers we have can be run indefinitely.

I’ll have to pitch that to my boss and see what he thinks. I’ve seen some people convert some water proof/resistant totes from Target to become filament dryers.

  • Yeah I honestly don’t know what took it so long. Maybe T-Mobile just felt like being slow?

Either way, I was really stoked when the pixels set up the carrier for me. TMobile doesn’t let you change/swap phones online and I really didn’t feel like calling and talking to someone.

Slow RCS activation aside, this was the easiest and most hassle free phone swap I’ve ever done.

  • Coming from a Pixel 5, the 6 was a letdown for me. I didn’t like how the size increased, and I despise the under screen fingerprint sensor, it’s very finicky; even if you’re using a compatible screen protector. To me it’s a major downgrade compared to the rear mounted fingerprint sensor on the previous pixels (sans 4).

I do like how I was able to get 256gb for it as I do need more storage, but I wish it had the option for 512gb.

It also sometimes gets really warm. And within the past year it’s had a couple of situations where I thought it died on me (screen unresponsive, doesn’t wake to power button, etc.), but it turned out to just be the phone having conniptions. Most recently I think debris has worked its way into the power button, as sometimes the phone becomes erratic, where it shuts the screen on/off sporadically.

Also, the modem fucking sucks on this thing, I have an unbridled hatred for it. My brother got a Pixel 7 and we share the same carrier and he reports he has no issues with his, so I’m guessing they’ve improved the modem on the 7 over the 6.

The Pixel 5 is still in my opinion the best Pixel Google ever made, it was honestly the perfect size and had the better fingerprint sensor. If they were to make the pixel 5 again but give it a newer processor and more storage, it would be a no brainer for me.

  • My favorite games as a child growing up in the 90s:

    Zelda OoT

    Super Mario 64

    Pokemon Red

    Zelda OoA/OoS

Though after later playing Final Fantasy 7 in 2003 that quickly captivated me and became really special to me. It was my first Final Fantasy I ever played and one of my most cherished games to this day.

Also, while I never played the original 90s game, I absolutely adored Black Mesa and the Half Life franchise. It was damn impressive what Valve accomplished with the original Half Life back then.
