The good thing is that all sane instances can just defederate and we won’t have to deal with them. They can use the software all they want, and we can shut them out from our spaces all we want.

What are you arguing against here? If you think you’re defending yourself then you think you’re defending yourself. If you think you’re helping the people you think you’re helping the people. Neither means the outcome will be good or the actions justified. All the person you’re responding to did was reason about Thatcher’s possible motivations.
Do you actually understand the term strawman because arguing against a strawman is exactly what you did there.
It’s a great tool for the right tasks. What’s annoying is that it’s marketed as being a great tool for tasks it can barely do.
It has really sped up the process of writing things in languages I’m unfamiliar with. All the stupid little mistakes it will find much faster than trying to google them. As long as you’re critical of the answers I also found it pretty good at explaining how to do things. It will often get some details wrong but as long as you have general programming ability and access to documentation you can usually figure those out somewhat easily.
Note that from some countries (germany at least) you might need a vpn to access the 18+ parts of DLsite (on that note, both steam and gog have a few porn games delisted if you’re in germany, thanks to some “think of the children” people, but JAST sells them anyway if they have it)
While the effect of not having as much random porn on steam is kinda nice, the underlying reasons for this are fucking horrifying because it’s further proof that some giant american companies (visa, paypal, mastercard) are the global morality police.
And it’s just random porn subgenres getting removed anyway so it kinda does nothing about the flood of those anyway.
And my point was that it might not necessarily be worse for artists outside of the extremelg successful ones.
Counterpoint: Without music streaming or pirating I wouldn’t have discovered most of the artists I listen to. Artists of which I have bought concert tickets and merch (and in one case recurring support through youtube membership), and even just buying songs on bandcamp outright in spite of only listening via streaming.
Streaming is shit at generating revenue, but far far better at allowing artists to get noticed, which puts more power into the artists’ hands rather than labels. “Support what you like through donations and merch” seems like a much better model overall (and has been proven to work), which also allows people with less money to enjoy the music while those with money to spare support it (and usually artists would want nothing more than for everyone to be able to enjoy their work, but they also have to live off something).
Though this is an outside perspective and I’d be interested in what actual musicians have to say about it, particularly those that have been making a living/significant money off it both before and after the event of streaming (and not the huge ones, because they never had any exposure issues).
There’s also a chance that as a result of the discoverability, even if total money reaching the artists was unchanged, it’s split over more recipients, so it’s harder to actually make a living off it, but maybe easier to see at least some returns instead of it only being a money sink. Whether that’d be good or bad overall I can’t say.
Also since this thread is about games, I don’t think it really applies there since games are on average MUCH more expensive to make.
Ime with ublock it’s not nearly as easy to manage allowing only specific scripts to run on each website to make it work but with less garbage added on compared to noscript

Idk man “exclusionary” is literally part of terf I don’t think there’s much ambiguity there. Fuck terfs though.

One of the major draws of discord is the fact that they host the servers for you, for free. Anyone can make an account, click a button, and have a discord server.
Afaik matrix does allow this (haven’t used it personally) but it’s something where I am a bit worried about hosting costs if it reaches a large scale. (Also unsure about how the matrix protocol works precisely, but if defederation is a thing which I feel like it has to be, I can see it leading to huge pains since discords use case is often about being part of a specific communitu, as opposed to twitter or reddit. Being unable to join a groip or see some messsges because of federation issues would be a major headache).

Well, the real moment it becomes an issue is when a significant vulnerability is found after EOS. So I guess after EOS is when the sword of damocles starts hanging above every win 10 user…
Personally I’m on the edge of the ship just waiting to jump off once i have my new pc (probably next week).
Which is entirely seperate from having a grasp on how much money it is you’re borrowing and how hard it will be to pay back
I feel like this still slightly misses the problem. I couldn’t give less of a shit whether they do or don’t make money from my data, I care that they are tracking so many things for that purpose that I can be identified and many lifestyle habits are visible, which is a problem when the data ends up with someone who wants to use it to spy on me. Which probably has never targeted me specifically, but my data is almost certainly in a tool capable of this. Because this happens frequently.
Of course this happens because they want to make money from it and sell it, but even if they only want it to idk customize my feed to make me like their website more and it never leaves their server, I’d still have to worry about data breaches. Or just someone else taking over and deciding that selling it is great, actually.
And even though I have decided that I personally don’t really care enough to deal with the downsides for quality of life, that doesn’t mean I don’t want this to stop via legal means.

What the fuck
I… actually don’t think I’ve ever met someone that smelled like literal shit. Some homeless people that smell like piss, sure, but that has other reasons.
I almost feel sorry for these people, surely this idea of not wiping has to come from somewhere and it’s not something they came up with.
They do, but HIV infections can take a while to turn up positive while already being transmittable.

I thought they did that at the start of the year
If you want to hate them more, there were cases of wikis moving off the site and fandom just deciding to restore the content after the maintainers deleted it, claiming everything written on the site is their property. Absolute shithole and I refuse to use it if there are alternatives.

People buy cosmetics because they think they look cool and want to support the game they like. In WoWs, some premium ships are honestly hella fun in unique ways (while others are dumb op but of course some ppl pay for that too). In gachas it’s a mix of just wanting the character and gameplay advantages.
Personally the stuff I don’t get is spending money on the mentioned match 3 games, farm sims, and casual mobile games in general. Which are a huge market as mobile gaming is, for whatever reason I cannot comprehend, the largest gaming market in terms of revenue.
Ive only played like 4 hours yesterday (not like it’s been out for very long), but I guess for just seeing if it’s worth trying that works.
I think the strongest point is definitely the style it has going on - it knows what it’s trying to do and the UI and art style work together to convey that. It’s similar to Persona 5 in that way, and imo if P5 is a 10/10 execution of this, ZZZ is at least a 9/10.
I haven’t watched the trailer but the characters are certainly quite goofy, so what you said about it going for more comedy seems accurate. I didn’t have any actual laugh out loud moments though, it’s more of a generally amusing athmosphere they’re going for. The dystopian setting isn’t ignored but the overall vibes are definitely more on the fun than the depressing side.
Combat has been fun so far, both perfect dodging and a form of blocking (by swapping characters when the enemy attacks) exist and are rewarded by the game. The blocking in particular feels really good imo. The stylishness of it all makes it enjoyable even though it’s not hard (at least so far, there will probably be harder content at some point since that’s how gachas usually work).
So far I like it a lot, in many places it feels like a lot of passion went into it (though I feel similarly about all the mihoyo games I’ve played) in spite of it being a gacha. If you like the aesthetics I think you’ll at least have a good time for a while and can judge the rest for yourself.
How popular is non-american football in the US? I know its been getting more popular recently, but unlike most of europe and south america, it’s far from the #1 sport.
I have no doubt the canadian and mexican games (and the finals) will be sold out, but with these prices, the state of the US economy, and no sane person wanting to travel there, I wouldn’t be super surprised if some games in the US weren’t. After all, if you’re not from NA, you can just go to the next one 4 years later and it’s probably much cheaper.
Sadly it won’t be the ghost stadiums it would deserve though.
