I just passed a LARP group in a park near my place. Three had to be forty people gathered in a picnic area comparing their costumes

Mildly Infuriating@lemmy.world•Public transit in Toronto, Canada 🇨🇦 vs Chengdu, China 🇨🇳 English
4·5 months agoYep, developing country is developing? Holy crap, imagine that!
Add to that, Toronto’s transit system includes light rail that pulls together a much wider geographical area, outside its subway system. It’s a pretty good system, actually
Same here, everyone was so stressed about “the audit” but we had written common sense processes and executed them as needed, with mechanisms in place to flag potential areas for improvement if we found gaps.
The audit was fine.
My guess is they think that since you’re paying for the audit the auditors won’t bust you for fraud, which is cute, since the auditors are asked to audit specific things that the company asks them to audit. They’re not released on the company like witch hunters, with wide open access to everything, cutting a swathe through fraud and criminality while people are furiously burning documents in the basement. So there is no conflict of interest, since the auditors are looking at what the people using them are asking them to look at.
Mine went away almost entirely when I switched from mouse to rollerball, but I do still get something similarly unpleasant when I play PS4 for too long
I destroyed online MW2 for endless hours back in the day but now I can get about an hour of AC Odyssey in before my thumbs go numb and start to hurt from carpal tunnel. I might have to go back to PC gaming
That’s pretty good

14·5 months agoExactly, picked up RDR2, AC Odyssey and Bloodborne for about $45 recently. This constant pressure to move people toward a subscription model only works if there’s trust. Too much bullshit = shrinking sales
The first Place was a lot of fun. I miss that kind of stuff. Or the “wild sketch appeared” guy, or that guy who was a corvid specialist and popped up with bird facts every once in a while, until some drama happened and he left the site… It was an interesting site for a while there.

A friend of ours had breast cancer, got treatment, it went into remission. Fast forward a few years, she thinks it might be recurring. She calls her doctor. Four month wait for the test. She decides to go South to the US. Pays a chunk, gets the test right away, yep, cancer confirmed
What would have happened if she had had to wait four months for a diagnosis? Would it have been too late?
The way health systems work now only makes sense in the context of profit and expense. People are used to going without so that either taxpayer funded systems can squeeze their budgets as tightly as possible, or for-profit systems can milk the last nickel from anyone in need.
It’s a disgrace. Whether the government budget is squeezed to control debt and deficit levels or people are abused and mistreated for profit, it comes down to this filthy, unfair, colonial system based on monetary and banking systems introduced in the later years of the British Empire.
People should be rioting at the treatment that the billionaire class deems acceptable for them. There is no practical reason other than greed for any of this.
