What about the installer? Anaconda isn’t great, but you only need about 1 minute to set the options to install and then let it do it’s job before rebooting.

10·2 years agoSome also do have specific use cases where they work really well, like Tea Tree Oil for acne and nail fungus or Peppermint oil for nausea. Most of them don’t do anything though.

2·2 years ago50GB for the simple dual layer discs. You can theoretically reach 100GB with triple layer disks. The largest BDRip I have is 90GB for the Super Mario Bros. Movie.
Edit: UHD Blu-ray only supports dual and triple layer disks, not quad. Quad layer discs do exist though, with up to 128GB of capacity.

4·2 years agoYeah, it’s cheap, doesn’t produce air pollution, and doesn’t need fuel. Even if you don’t believe that global warming is a thing, it has a lot of benefits.

SuperIce@lemmy.worldtopolitics @lemmy.world•Biden vows to reopen Baltimore port, rebuild collapsed Key BridgeEnglish
21·2 years agoEvery bridge in the SF Bay Area has fenders and the Bay Bridge had a container ship hit the fenders. The bridge was unaffected but the ship had a hole torn in it which led to a huge oil spill (Cosco-Busan oil spill). Repairing the fender itself only took 1 month and $1.5 million. IMO any bridge that ships pass under it needs appropriately sized fenders for those ships.

6·2 years agoThe fenders on the SF Bay Bridge have successfully prevented damage to the bridge twice so far. Every bridge in the SF Bay Area has fenders to prevent exactly what happened in Baltimore. They work.

Technology@lemmy.ml•HDMI: New certifications make old HDMI app almost obsoleteEnglish
92·2 years agoHDMI isn’t necessary for HDCP though. HDCP also works over DisplayPort and even DVI.
Edit: The HDMI article on Wikipedia that you linked even says:
The HDMI founders began development on HDMI 1.0 on April 16, 2002, with the goal of creating an AV connector that was backward-compatible with DVI. At the time, DVI-HDCP (DVI with HDCP) and DVI-HDTV (DVI-HDCP using the CEA-861-B video standard) were being used on HDTVs. HDMI 1.0 was designed to improve on DVI-HDTV by using a smaller connector and adding audio capability and enhanced Y′CBCR capability and consumer electronics control functions.
