My dad WAS a republican that didn’t watch fox news. A true fiscal conservative.
Then Trump got the nomination in 2016 and he has voted blue ever since.
Actually, I think he might have voted for Obama on the first term too. I remember him being very upset about Palin. “Who the heck is this crazy lady?!”
So yeah, non indoctrinated Republicans at least used to exist. But the ones still holding on in 2024? Must live in heavily conservative areas.
but let’s be honest, all it takes is one wedge issue to lose Progressives. They are not a vote worth pursuing
and this advice, fellow internet peeps, is how you lose elections to fascists.
Uh huh. I guess all those Progressives that refused to vote for Hillary because of the DNC scandal don’t count. Or all the progressives, who are very loudly declaring they won’t vote for genocide, don’t count. Or the california progressives currently decrying Adam Schiff’s (checks notes) attack ads on a Republican as actually designed to raise his name recognition so Schiffs progressive opponent would lose to a republican, don’t count.
If you think all of the above are ridiculous reasons not to vote Dem in the general election, then you’re not the idiotic progressive fringe I’m talking about, and your vote is already secure.
Sorry, see my edit above. Looked it up myself
Do you actually have evidence that Schiff propped up his republican rival?
Edit - looked up these claims. The claim is that he propped up a republican by running attack ads against him. That’s an absurd basis to demonize Schiff for. Should he have attacked Porter instead? Dem voters definitely would not appreciate in fighting right now, when we have literal nazis to rally against.
This just sounds like more baiting to trick Progressives into grandstanding against the Dem candidate.
I’ll disagree with that, as someone lemmy would classify as a moderate.
We all know the Dems are the only adults in the room. We know they actually want to govern. We accept that the majority of them are corporate shills, but also want to improve things for the people as long as there’s not a direct conflict with corporate America.
Most importantly, we recognize that the other party wants to pillage this country and burn down everything and hand it over to the filthy rich.
If the Dems got into petty attacks on Republicans, you would not lose moderate voters. You may lose more Progressives, but let’s be honest, all it takes is one wedge issue to lose Progressives. They are not a vote worth pursuing. It’s getting more of the red vote, or at least creating voter apathy in the Right by branding all their politicians as the absolute clowns they are.
20 years ago, I would say you were right. Being respectable was a draw. But actions speak louder than words, and the Republican’s actions for the last decade have been absolutely vile. Rhetoric won’t change that.
I would roll my eyes incredibly hard, but I’m starting to think they need to get into the childish nickname game too. It really sells to that crowd. People are, to this day, still delightfully saying Lets Go Brandon like it’s clever.
I will forgive them. There’s a large portion of this country that thinks of politics as entertainment and are just interested in drama. Fight fire with fire.
You’re telling me that the guy who showed up to counter protest with a gun, who provoked protestors while holding a gun, is actually a coward who’s too afraid to comment on the racist remarks of his shitty friend.
Who’da’thunk’it
Tenant laws differ by state. Some could be evicted if the new owner doesn’t want them. Some have protections that would force the new owner to continue renting until end of lease or some grace period.
Businesses inside the properties probably have contracts with new ownership stipulations. But these are Trump contracts, so I assume there are lot of shenanigans, so your guess is as good as any.
Anyone have that first graph in a dollar amount? Seems odd to display that as a percentage.
And therefore the world, as is tradition.
Imagine learning the English language purely off Trump speeches, tweets, and MAGA echo chambers.
Man. Gotta give Trump some credit. He has been consistently executing on his campaign promise! Draining the swamp, one ally at a time!
Because most of us like to celebrate when another violent insurrectionist, who tried to overthrow our lawful votes, finally sees some consequences for their actions.
Trying to interpret his actual intent is pointless. That’s why his base likes him, he talks in circles, and you can attribute whatever meaning you want to it.
But if we’re going by his actual words, he’s saying that there will be a blood bath if he’s not elected, and that the tariff is the least of the trouble that’s going to happen when he takes power.
But his words and mid sentence topic changes can lead you to literally any conclusion.
Depends if we get enough of a margin that it would take a bunch of Manchin/Sinemas to fuck things up
How much are you being paid to post those same 5 links everywhere?
Uh huh. So what you’re saying is that you actually won’t (and probably didn’t) hold your nose and vote blue because you realize what’s at stake. So your above arguments were in bad faith. Got it.
Peace.
I guess your answer to the age old question of “what would you do if you were in Germany when Hitler was rising to power” is:
“I would dwell on all the problems with his opposition, and then sit smugly that I did the right thing in pursuit of ‘perfect’. It’s not my fault that Hitler took power, and I wash my hands of everything he and his followers are doing”
To put it more plainly - loudly complaining that Biden is bad, dems are bad, etc etc is polarizing people against voting blue/Biden. You may suck it up and vote blue in the end, but look around. Lemmy is full of hardline progressives that have stated they will refuse to vote for Biden in the general election if he doesn’t cut support for Isreal.
Criticism is fine, but it’s extremely important to keep it in perspective, and remind people to vote blue regardless, because it is not an exaggeration when we say we are literally up against fascism and tyranny.
To put it succinctly, support for Gaza is not on the ballot. Support for continued democracy is.
We can defederate them now. Content will move as it reaches fewer eyes.
