This is funny, because it’s true.
I have 2 servers. One is used as a NAS and hosted stuff. The other is just for backups. If the space runs out somewhere, it will simply be expanded.
No, SMR HDDs are not made for continuous operation.

Please note the HDD technology. Please only use CMR HDDs in servers.
mumble is an easy to setup voice server. And as the others say, rent a vps.
You will never know when breaking changes will happen, that’s why I wouldn’t recommend an auto update.

The police can’t take a local server with them?
I simply use a shell script that rsync my files to the backup server. Runs daily as a cronjob at 01:00 am.
They are designed for permanent operation.
Maybe some bottleneck, connection, cpu or hdd.
