When I switched from Tusky to Fedilab it was largely driven by Fedilab’s superior support for multi-level nesting of long comment threads.

Video yes. Text-only no, you would need an account on another platform for that.

You could post a picture of text (with ALT text) from Pixelfed, though.
All Pixelfed content is discoverable and followable up on Mastodon and has the benefit of allowing more attachments per post than Mastodon. So I would think for OPs use case of pushing media-focused content, without really needing the account to consume other peoples’ content, Pixelfed is a decent choice.

Fediverse@lemmy.world•How do I get a circle on mastodon (or any other non-thread social media)English
6·2 months agoIt adds searchable metadata to a post. Like if you go in Netflix and search for an actor or browse a genre. So I can follow #rugby without having to follow every single person posting about rugby, and I will see all posts that have that tag. Then I can find individual people within that topic to follow and interact with directly.

Fediverse@lemmy.world•Is Pixelfed sawing off the branch that the Fediverse is sitting on?English
1·2 months agoIf I have a mutual who is on multiple platforms, and I also have accounts on those same multiple platforms, we would generally be following each other mutually on those same platforms.

Fediverse@lemmy.world•Is Pixelfed sawing off the branch that the Fediverse is sitting on?English
1·2 months agoI can from a number of other Fediverse platforms. I may not be able to follow you on Lemmy like I can follow a community, but I can still find your account to see your posts and comments, and that limitation doesn’t really impact me having to have per-instance accounts versus having a fediverse-wide account. I have probably a dozen fediverse accounts across multiple platforms. I want to have my fediverse identity able to access all fediverse platforms and that other people using that platform can find me as.

Fediverse@lemmy.world•Is Pixelfed sawing off the branch that the Fediverse is sitting on?English
2·2 months agoIt’s a terrible idea that they should all try to eventually do all the same everything.
I don’t want them all to do the same thing, but I don’t want to have to have a separate identity on each one and have to redundantly follow people on the multiple platforms.

4·2 months agoIf I sign up to Instagram I don’t expect to see facebook posts. Most people understand this concept.
Actually posts on one can be available on the other. And you can see Instagram posts on Threads, too.
Similarly, I can follow Pixelfed users from Mastodon and see their posts, and they can follow me back and see my Mastodon posts with photo attachments.

Mildly Infuriating@lemmy.world•US Senator Joseph Martin said Canada should become american. Canadian politician Charlie Angus respondsEnglish
31·2 months agoIt does. A US Senator is a representative of the entire state with influence over federal law and federal executive branch appointees with influence on the national military. A state Senator has none of that influence. Would you consider a regional office manger’s opinion to carry the same weight as that of a board member?

Asklemmy@lemmy.ml•Do you ever think you're smiling for a photo, but then when you see it you look like you have a neutral or even frowning expression? Why does this happen?
8·3 months agoBecause we can feel even the most minor movement of our facial muscles away from our natural resting position, in much greater precision than what other people can see of the same.

+1 on checking in Pixelfed. Lemmy -> Instagram isn’t comparable user experience. But given the closing comment about “local stuff and people I know” then odds are they won’t be on Pixelfed either.

Asklemmy@lemmy.ml•Mastodon - I am getting unwanted posts to my timeline. Why?
3·4 months agoAside from the hashtag hypothesis, there are multiple timelines on Mastodon: trending, local, and global for example. I’m assuming you didn’t suddenly accidentally start looking at a different timeline but still worth mentioning.

Asklemmy@lemmy.ml•is it possible to publish in spanish on this server?
3·4 months agoAre you looking at the drop-down for your comment? I’m taking about your account settings. Go to https://lemmy.zip/settings and there should be a list view for Languages that you can multi-select.
Posts and comments where the author doesn’t select a language use undetermined. So you need to also select that to see all those posts.

Asklemmy@lemmy.ml•is it possible to publish in spanish on this server?
11·4 months agoThe language selection on a post/comment doesn’t alter how the content of the post or comment is published. It works in conjunction with the user-level language setting to filter what content other people see. So if you set the language to on your post to Spanish, then the only users who will see it are those who have added either Spanish or Undetermined to the Languages list in their user settings. For everyone who doesn’t have one of those two languages enabled in their settings your post/comment will simply not be displayed.

A VM would probably do fine.
