  • Personality, presence and confidence

Natural self confidence, but NOT an arrogant selfish confidence.

Some people naturally have confidence and presence and some people need to build it as a skill.

I know guys and gals with little to no knowledge or skill build up careers because they just knew how to talk and connect to people.

I also know guys and gals with years of education and degrees but have little to no way of politely or easily getting along with people.

  • I grew up in a very unorganized town that wasn’t really regulated with traffic laws. I learned to drive a truck at about 12.

When I was 14 I was driving my dad’s truck around town. I suddenly had the urge to see how well the brakes worked. I drove fast down a gravel road than slammed on the brakes as hard as I could. Within seconds it blew both front brake lines.

Later that same year in the winter I got the truck stuck on some ice. It wasn’t bad, I just happened to stop on a very slippery patch of ice and couldn’t move forward. I got the idea that as the tires spun, they were getting hot which meant it was melting the ice. If I did it long enough I would eventually get down to the gravel. I got impatient and spun the wheels faster smoking them like crazy while the engine roared. In the middle of the noise and smoke, a tire exploded and the truck jumped and deflated. I had blown out a tire.

Dad wasn’t happy with me for a long while because the truck went to the shop and we had to pay a lot of money to get them fixed.

At the very least, I never made these mistakes again.

I always look at situations like this this way

Staying connected to the family member constantly makes you feel bad

Disconnecting from the family member constantly makes you feel bad

Therefore, no matter what you do, you’ll always feel bad. But at the very least, of you disconnect, you’ll feel bad but at least you won’t have to put up with more negativity by being around the person.

You’re damned if you do and damned if you don’t but at least if you stay away from them, you won’t deal with them directly.

If they are truly that bad and make you feel bad and you worry that they are a bad influence on your kids, then stay away.

  • Watch old popular programs and shows from the past.

There’s a reason why some shows went on for seven, eight or nine years … people liked them and the productions were well done because they had to be back then.

Nowadays, it’s far too easy to slap together a formulaic show or movie pump it out with a low budget and send it out. It’s good in one way because it gets writers, producers, actors and directors to do work they never could have done in the past but it also means there is less pressure to make something great. Twenty, or thirty years ago and more, a production had to be really well done because it was way more expensive, involved a lot more people and there was far more risks for everybody. Doesn’t mean they always produced great stuff but due to the circumstances, there was more pressure to make great content.

At this point in media … you can take your time watching what’s new and if you ever feel like there’s nothing to watch … there’s decades of great content from the past that will suit anyone.

  • Governments, businesses, corporations and all of us just normalizing and accepting that the majority of everything we own or buy at affordable prices are all based on taking advantage of as many poor people as possible in our home countries and most of the time in third world developing nations where people are paid pennies for their work.

We complain about China, yet everyone buys everything from them. We look down on third world developing countries yet we base our economies on manufacturing a ton of stuff from them because they all hire people for as little as possible. In America, Canada and Europe, we have agricultural workers we ship in from poorer countries to harvest our crops because we don’t want to pay higher prices for labour to the people that live in our countries … we would rather pay poverty wages for imported labour that we don’t want to stay in our country.

Everything we do, buy and pay for is all based on exploitation … our entire economy the world over is based on it … yet it is perfectly legal … but if we are all so moral, enlightened and intelligent then it should be illegal.

  • Toyota Echo

I had to rent one one year because my car was in the shop for a while.

I was being cheap and I just needed a car at the time.

There is no seat room or leg room. I’m tall but not that tall and I couldn’t get comfortable in this thing.

And who the hell thought it was a good idea to put the instrument panel in the centre of the whole dashboard and not directly in front of the driver. I had a few near accidents before I adjusted myself to where the speedometer was.
