To read their comment generously as I did initially, calling it a “quote of hearsay” is calling the validity of the citation so far removed from being trustworthy it doesn’t deserve the word. Granted, it would be doing this without explicitly stating so or supporting it with any evidence or arguments.
To be honest, I’m not convinced by this source. We don’t know who made the claim, we know a guy that wrote a DnD book a year and a half ago told a youtuber they exist and said it. That’s a step or two removed from where I would trust it.

Imagine you have a big board on your front lawn where people can come to write stuff and respond to others on the board. This board is an instance.

Your neighbor has their own board, which they have “federated” with yours. Messages from your board can show up on their board, and people there can write on those messages same as ones native to that board.

You can federate with them so their stuff shows on your board, or defederate if you don’t like the people there.

Anyone with the ability to make a board can have one federated with other boards to make a really big web of boards, but to a person looking at your lawn’s board it feels like one big one.

There can be some interesting things. In my campaign setting there is an age requirement of 450 to be on the ruling council of the largest nation, so it’s almost entirely elves with the odd gnome or other long lived race. It’s been interesting thinking of how society would be shaped around such an institution.

Even in most adventures I’ve been in or heard of they usually doesn’t last even a tenth of the 50 years in the meme so the differing life spans don’t really factor in.

To each their own, but I think removing the differing life spans makes the races more flat and indistinct.

I have a running theory that the best grounded sci fi get one big free technology that doesn’t need to be based in anything realistic whose implications create the rest of the setting.

In Mass Effect, it’s the mass effect created by eezo that allows for gravity manipulation. It’s how cars can fly, ships can travel between planets, and biotics get their superpowers. It allows the universe to ask “how would the world be impacted by gravity manipulation?”

In The Expanse, at least leading up to the events of the first book, it’s the Epstein Drive. How would continuous thrust allowing for interplanetary travel over days/weeks instead of months/years affect society’s growth? It allows for a more rich and interesting world by only asking for one strong suspension of disbelief.

I definitely had that for a while. One thing that can help is going into your settings/preferences and clearing your Spotify cache. I believe the recommendations are at least partially based on data stored there, so clearing it can start a fresher record.
