Malls were being killed by big box complexes before Amazon was prevalent, but the one-two punch didn’t do them any favors.
I see it as a combination of things…
Big box retailers.
Online sales.
People stopped going to movie theaters.
So what’s the reason to go to a mall? Crappy food court food?
I consider myself an Oregonian first and American second. Most of the country I can absolutely do without.
Oregon though…
2018 - Having a heart attack and being told I need open heart surgery.
Nothing has scared me since then.
It took reddit a long time to come up with “Multis” where you put whatever themed channels under one group.
I don’t see why it couldn’t be done here.
Found out yesterday my wife has to have an amputation… again. :(
Lessons start on Thursday so we’ll see what they have me start with (scales, I’m sure! LOL!).
If I could pull any one song out of the ether and play it perfectly it would be Higher Ground.
Either version :)
Bought a bass guitar, should be here tomorrow.
No, I have NO idea what I’m doing.
Not “this economy” but 20 years ago, I was unemployed and took a part time job running a computer lab at night at a for profit college.
When I got a regular day job, I kept the lab job for extra money.
So I worked IT from 8 to 5, then the computer lab from 6 to 10, Mon-Thur. Normal job on Fri. Off Sat/Sun.
I do kind of miss the private clubs. I had worked my way up through 100K, 150K, 200K and 300K karma clubs before I bailed and came here.
Centennial Club was just the best. It was like Century Club, but way nicer!
If it lasts/has lasted more than 24 hours, get to a doctor!
I fought bad “heartburn” for 5 days. Turned out, I was having a heart attack. On day 5 the damage was already done and I had to have open heart surgery.
Learning new things and helping other people learn new things.
Did you know the poems of Emily Dickinson can be read to the tune of the Yellow Rose of Texas?
https://shc.stanford.edu/arcade/interventions/my-life-withstood-yellow-rose
Regarded now as one of the most important American poets, only 10 of her 1,800 poems were published in her lifetime.
I dunno, they look pretty happy… “Luna” from Kai:
Ocean wave action isn’t for first timers:

An ocean going boat isn’t for a beginner. I’d stick to a car. :)
A sailing boat is tricky to manage solo, if you’re on your own, I’d steer clear.
I’ve had a-fib and congestive heart failure, 2 heart attacks, and open heart surgery.
Each of the times my heart has stopped, I was asleep, no awareness of it until the doctors and nurses told me.
With the heart monitor, I can press a button when something feels “off”, and report symptoms like being dizzy or passing out. Doc says I’ve been getting extra heartbeats sometimes. Low blood pressure has been a problem too.
When I pass out from low blood pressure, the first thing is I get super dizzy. Then a ringing in my ears so loud I can’t hear anything. Then my vision closes in and turns red and I wake up on the floor.
Fix your PC. Yes, I work in technology, and yeah, I probably CAN fix your PC. Not my job.
I mean, permanently or temporarily? Apparently my heart has been stopping on and off randomly all year. :(
Get this… I was in the hospital in January. I wake up, check my phone… Nurse comes in.
“Were you asleep about an hour ago?”
“Yeah, why?”
“Your heart stopped for 8 seconds.”
“. . . Um… ‘thank you’? I’m not sure what I’m supposed to do with that information…”
Apparently it happened a few more times in March. I have an implanted heart monitor now, always watching.
American malls are three categories. Generally when people say “the mall”, they mean big, indoor, enclosed malls. That’s what is dying a slow death.
A local example for me:
https://en.m.wikipedia.org/wiki/Clackamas_Town_Center
The problem has been the large anchor stores are going out of business and the stores that remain struggle to survive.
The kind of mall you describe, Americans call “strip malls” and are much smaller and open to the elements. A grocery store, maybe a bank, fast food, not an official post office, but a pack and ship location, sometimes a DMV. That kind of thing.
Strip malls also struggle, there’s one by my house where the big grocery store just closed leaving it maybe 50% vacant.
We also have stand alone grocery stores that aren’t part of strip malls that collect other small stores around it like mini-moons. Barbershops, laundromats, liquor stores.
As long as the grocery store operates, everyone does fine.
Edit Almost forgot… “Big Box Complexes”. Not really malls, just large block stores sharing a common parking lot. So like a Target, Home Depot, Best Buy, all stand alone stores with shared parking.
