My eldest son gave me a bracelet that has the date I adopted him engraved on the underside of it. It has sharp edges. Here’s my keyboard left hand side because of it :D
What was yours?

Done. Good luck.
It’s two months later and I’m still absolutely fucking horrified by this. Like just popped into my mind randomly so I had to find the post.
Anyway, I hope life’s treating you better.
Honestly, holy fuck haha.
Edit: the “haha” is laughing at the utter absurdity of it. Not you, obviously!
Lawnchair may be what you’re after. It’s open source and I find it very lightweight. Based off the pixel launcher.
long press on home, select home settings, select burger dots top right, backup and restore are in there. Took me a while to find.
My response to this is usually “Do you have curtains?”
Very late edit: I have found it very effective. It causes pause for thought because everyone values privacy, they just find it hard to picture themselves needing it. Curtains.
Ireland ticks most of your boxes. If any of your grandparents are Irish you can get dual citizenship. English speaking and lots of cultural crossover etc.
Closer for trips back too. Think it’s only a 5 hour flight to New York for example.
Won’t be on the near-term rewatch list but it was quite enjoyable.
Perfect summary. I liked it too.
Goddamm is Toni Colette good at every role she takes. Down to how she moves her hands as she slices up that new ingredient for a sauce.
I’ve seen her pop up again and again since Muriel’s Wedding (which is great though I’m not sure how well it will have aged) and always thought she’s nailed her part. She’s some range.
I watched that this week. Enjoyed it. It’s a good story well told. Temper those expectations though. It’s no classic.
The Pacific was great. I think it was the follow up to Band of Brothers.
Ah yeah totally fair. To each their own.
I did live in a city centre once a long time ago but I’d definitely be keeping the earplugs in all night if I were you now!
Yeah fair enough. I’m not using them in a work environment. I’m happy if I get an extra 20 minutes of sleep in the morning when all the noise from the teenage grooming starts. Sometimes it’s 40.
It sounds ridiculous but it all adds up.
I grew up in the arse end of nowhere so any noise at all wakes me.
Those foam ones are really irritating after a while. Your local chemist may sell “mouldable silicone” ones that are cheap, better at sound isolation and way more comfortable. You basically just mash them into your ear and they form a perfect seal.
I use them every night.
I think that about sums it up
I have gotten a few family members and friends to use signal as I stated to them that this is the only way to get ahold of me.
Same. It’s the default app for everyone I’m close to.
E2E with privately generated and held keys, have you published your PGP public key yet?
Exactly. You can’t stop secure encryption.
I remember in the very old days of the internet when only the US had strong encryption and thought it was some gotcha. They labeled it a weapon to prevent overseas export. Phil Zimmerman created PGP, lobbed the source into a book (protected under 1st amendment) then shipped it overseas.
If strong encryption exists and people want to use it, you’re just not going to be able to stop them.
Golden advice my father gave me:
The second you start noticing any buzz it’s time to ease down. There is still more alcohol in your stomach waiting to be absorbed so you’ll continue getting more buzzed even if you do stop.
It’s a great way to pace yourself.
Edit: my 2c is that you’ll be drunk on two unless you really spread them out. Take small sips and use the buzz rule. They tend to be reasonably potent.
Mid term for the kids so I took some time off.
Sonic the Hedgehog 1, 2 and 3. My youngest is on a bit of a Sonic buzz at the moment. I enjoyed the cuddles and the movies were actually decent enough.
Public Enemies - 2009. Story about the Dillinger gang who pulled off a bunch of bank robberies. Depp and Bale were both very good. I enjoyed it.
Heat - 1995. Rewatch obviously. It has held up incredibly well. Hard to believe it’s 30 years old. Watch it if you haven’t seen it. Absolutely incredible gangster / bank heist movie with Pacino and De Niro on opposing sides.
Collateral - 2004. Cruise and Jamie Foxx. Also holds up really well. Standard Tom Cruise flick but very enjoyable.
Solaris was great until they insisted on keeping their crappy CPU for way too long before adding x86 support and lost their market share and their company.
It was a terrible gamble and they lost hard to Linux as a result.
There are two Lidl beans. The extra 10p for the ring pull one gets you more than just the convenience. :) Worth trying both though.
Yaaarrrrns.
I love when I hear folks do this. It always gives me a little wholesome bump that it’s from reading.
