Witching is literally throwing ingredients together and cooking them, hell nearly every ingredient like eye of newt is referring to a spice. So yeah I love my air fryer but I also love my soup pot :3

Asklemmy@lemmy.ml•What's the android version of getting annoyed with windows and installing linux mint?
1·2 months agoYeah but its a less secure way of using GraphineOS, the fact is the sandboxed Google play services is the most secure way to use it (what im using on my GOS setup)

Asklemmy@lemmy.ml•What's the android version of getting annoyed with windows and installing linux mint?
5·2 months agoYou are absolutely and completely out of luck, all three of the devices mentioned use Mediatek processors. Mediatek is widely known as having the absolute worst support for custom roms due to no open source drivers being available and generally no support for developers.
As a rule of thumb if it runs android and it doesn’t use Snapdragon or Tensor it doesn’t support custom roms. If it uses Snapdragon and specifically has an unlockable bootloader than it might support custom roms. Finally if it runs a Tensor processor (with the exception of Pixel 10 due to being too new) than it is guaranteed to either run custom roms or eventually run custom roms (no guarantee for future tensor devices).
So if you want my reccomendation for phone brands it would be in this order:
- Google Pixel: Any of them except the 10 yet, maybe in a couple months from now. Generally the gold standard for custom rom support, only brand (as of now) to support GraphineOS (the most secure custom OS that is generally considered unhackable by current tools)
- Nothing (yes its acturally called that): great custom rom support, the design of the phones however is… Well lets just say its highly opinionated and you either love it or hate it
- Fairphone: Also generally great custom rom support
Custom roms/custom OSs (excluding forks and custom builds):
LineageOS: The largest and original custom rom, as the evolution of CyanogenOS it is the #1 custom rom that nearly eveyone thinks of when they think of custom roms. It supports 559 devices however keep in mind only 44% (247) support LineageOS 22.2 or up (Android 15) and only 23% (132) support LineageOS 23 (Android 16). Due to complications Android 16 QPR1 is not included in LineageOS 23.
GraphineOS: As the unofficial evolution of CopperheadOS, GraphineOS is newer (initially releasing in 2019) and widely considered the most secure custom OS (the devs insist the term “custom rom” is outdated and does not apply to GOS). Its also the most polished custom rom receiving regular updates and security patches significantly faster than any other mobile OS (even stock PixelOS). It focuses purely on security features and in that regard it succeeds. However keep in mind that means no microg (instead a secure sandboxed implementation of google services), almost no additional customization features, and especially no root. Also keep in mind only Google Pixels are supported for now (an unknown and unnamed OEM will start supporting GOS soon) and only as long as Google supports them (for security purposes). This means it supports Pixel 6 and up currently.

11·2 months agoThey dont acturally need to change the liscense at all, despite what most people think (and would logically make sense) AOSP is acturally downstream from Android. So basically as we’re seeing right now if Android doesn’t want to release the source code for something they just need to not push it to AOSP. It has been over two months already and Android 16 QPR1 still hadn’t been upstreamed to AOSP nor are they legally required to (they are legally required to publish kernel sources which they have failed to do).

Open Source@lemmy.ml•What will you do after Android starts restricting FOSS apps?
2·3 months agoYeah mobile linux cant afford splintering, if its to have any chance everyone needs to back PostmarketOS because quite frankly its the only mobile Linux distro with a future

2·3 months agoTheres a difference, some people use desktop Linux as their main desktop OS but very few people use mobile Linux (and significantly fewer use it as their main mobile os).

Open Source@lemmy.ml•What will you do after Android starts restricting FOSS apps?
1·3 months agoYou have just perfectly described why mobile Linux is never going to take off, the mentality of “I dont personally need x feature therefore it’s not important”. This isnt some sort of complicated thing like nfc payment or bypassing play protect this is literally changing the audio. So many incredibly basic tasks like that require typing multiple terminal commands on mobile Linux. Even if only advanced features like system management required using the terminal it would still be too much for 99% of people (even I wouldn’t use it).

Open Source@lemmy.ml•What will you do after Android starts restricting FOSS apps?
31·3 months agoHow much less security are you willing to accept? LineageOS is significantly worse in terms of security while PostmarketOS is even wose than LineageOS. Also its not just security but reliability.

81·3 months agoQuite frankly im going to keep using GraphineOS, it doesn’t really matter for me how much Google restricts AOSP code or sideloading. As much as I care about open source I need something secure and reliable.

Technology@beehaw.org•Framework under fire for Omarchy/DHH/Hyprland support?
24·3 months agoI genuenly dont understand why a glorified set of dotfiles have recived such an enormous amount of donations and publicity. Not a good set of dotfiles mind you, in fact it looks like subpar compared to the many superior Hyprland dotfiles. Whats even more absurd is that people are saying “this will get people to use Linux”, yeah im sure this is what Linux needs another distro thats slightly different.

Nope, you can quickly set up an alt acc tho
