Yup. I’ve never done anything besides installing NVIDIA drivers. Just switching the cable of the secondary monitor to the motherboard ports and it just worked. No reboot even, just making sure that adaptive sync is enabled in KDE or wherever.

VRR does not work if you have a NVIDIA card and more than one monitor enabled.

I recently learned that’s not entirely correct for Wayland. The critical thing is that VRR stops working if more than one enabled monitor is connected to the NVIDIA GPU. Meaning that if you connect only one display to the NVIDIA GPU and the other monitors to the integrated GPU it should just work.

I felt pretty stupid when I realized that I could’ve just switched a single cable and be using VRR way earlier. Didn’t even need a reboot to work. For reference, I’m using a NVIDIA GPU + AMD CPU with 1 G-Sync as my main monitor and one non-VRR as my secondary monitor.

Shout-out to the Dan Floyd and his PlayFrame channel, where he’s been doing a condensed playthrough of the game with just the MSQ, the interesting side-content, and highly cut segments of the interim gameplay. It’s only near the end of Shadowbringers right now, but it’s what got me into the game (as someone who was never into and mostly still isn’t into MMOs).

Great bundle, but seeing Penny and Arzette is a bit sad as they must’ve really bombed if they’re already in a bundle. That’s just 4 months from release to bundle.

SimCity 2000 isn’t on ProtonDB because they only list Steam games. It’s on Lutris though with multiple automatic install scripts for different versions, so it should be fairly easy to get running.

In general I’ve had way less trouble getting ancient Windows games to run on modern Linux than on modern Windows.

RPCS3 is indeed excellent, but if you look at their compatibility list about a third of all games aren’t in a playable state. The big exclusive titles people usually set up an emulator for will work for the most part, but outside of that it quickly becomes a lot sketchier.

Or being unable to install third-party apps or other browser engines is supposed to be for security reasons. Or being environment friendly through their recycling program when the truth is that they only do that to keep spare parts out of reach of independent repair shops. Pure gaslighting.

Looking into the metadata of the included PDF version reveals that it’s from 2004, so even a bit older than that.

Don’t worry. There’s still plenty of ESP32 waiting to be flashed with ESPHome and placed into their own little enclosure out there.

I use the CLI because it’s keyboard-focused (though I use lots of mouse-enabled TUIs) and because it’s programmable.

Generally though, I kind of get what you’re trying to say, but ‘uniformity’ feels like an unfortunate choice in the context of your question, as the meaning can be very arbitrarily defined, hence the confusion. I could, for example, claim that GUIs are more uniform because all chat apps, browsers etc… are so similar to each other that once I’ve learned one I can use all.

Which is why It’d probably be better if you tried to reword your initial question avoiding that term, focussing more on describing the desired benefits of your definition of uniformity.

Otherwise I’d point towards voice recognition, as that’s very similar to a CLI, but probably not what you had in mind, I’m guessing?

Even as a heavy user of CLIs, claiming that their text-only nature somehow makes them more uniform, feels a bit overly reductive to me:

To start with, there’s simple fire-and-return commands, interactive commands, full-blown TUIs and so on. Then there’s the parameters, which aren’t really consistent either across applications either. Neither in the naming of arguments, nor their grammar. The representation of the output is also all over the place.

With all those things, it’s really not so dissimilar from the different layouts of GUIs. Not to mention that there’s also lots of CLI tools that do the same thing but have a different interface, so yeah.

It’s one of the very few things Microsoft actually gets right on their websites. You select to log in with a passkey, authenticate, optionally select which account you want to use, and you’re signed in. Not a single username or password entered into the website.

That last point can’t be stressed enough. The whole marketing sector is essentially a net negative to society because neither an actual product gets produced nor any useful service is offered.

Pivoting+tilting+swivelling VESA wall mounts are also a thing, so you wouldn’t have needed to choose the display based on its stand

I personally wouldn’t have risked my monitor on being able to design a part that is able to last just to save the few bucks a mount costs. So props to you, I guess.

I have a Onyx Boox Nova C that has pretty much the same technology (Kaleido Plus) and would say that the color display is mostly just a neat gimmick that comes with some tradeoffs. Compared to a pure monochrome E-Ink display the contrast is much worse and colors don’t really pop either. You basically always need at least a bit off background lighting to be able to read.

I’d recommend these types of display only if being able to read without background lighting isn’t a must and even then only for stuff that’s better with color, like notes, technical books or the occasional colored page in a book/manga. If you want to read something reliant on stunning colorful artwork like graphic novels I’d stay away.

As long as that applies to all browsers equally. I don’t know the current state of things but if I remember correctly, Firefox already circumvented the earlier default protection method, because Microsoft made it so that their own Edge browser didn’t require those extra steps that were forced upon all other browsers.

A nice grid lined notebook and a mechanical pencil is still my favorite.

If only my default font wasn’t so bad that it causes data loss.

That looks very interesting, mostly because it’s so different. I’ll have to take a closer look later.

I didn’t mention it, but that’s actually my one (small) gripe with Joplin. It would be neat if I could access my notes with any markdown editor without having to open it through Joplin. That said, I don’t know how I would’ve handled the file structure differently while keeping features like the history alive.

Just tried it for a bit. Looks pretty sleek and has some nice features, but it seems like it’s not open-source, which is something I’d like to avoid.
