Yes, I can live without youtube I survived the 1980s and 1990s - I’m not saying my life is or was “meaningful” though - that’ll be discernable if the maggots enjoy their dinner whenever the time comes.

I also think there were at least a few generations of humans before that, some of whom may think they led at least slightly meaningful lives.

I don’t think youtube makes anyone’s life more or less “meaningful”, it’s just a way to pass the time - but that’s just my opinion on carbon-shuffling in general. If you accept peoples own objectives instead of mine, then youtube might help them learn stuff - but even then I’d look to measure the content of their consequent actions, much more than learning in abstract. They’ve still got to put their new knowledge together with skills , practice and the real world circumstances to before anyting “meaningful” happens - and that’s due as much to their hard work as much as to their teacher.

But I do prefer to watch a few people’s videos on there as entertainment, only a few of them post on that p2p thing “lbry” or whatever so i dont use that. I will continue to watch youtube videos given the choice, and not having somethign better to do, until those people move their videos to somewhere else.

I’ve recently been finding out that freetube client removes much of the front end unpleasantness.

Things like freetube seems to be basically a simple yt front-end.

I don’t know what happens if a significant amount of yt users used freetube. but that probably won’t happen.

I find it a lot more pleasant to use than yt.

Not OP but home delivery got very common since covid lockdowns in my country.

Self bagging only pretty much where i live.
The cashiers at lidl are so fast it’s hard to keep up.
I just stuff everything in fast as possible trying to maximise damage; this can also save on chewing time later.

But I only have to carry it as far as my bicycle - and I do sometimes need to fish out and reorganize heavy stuff at that point to keep the pain-ears vaguely balanced.

Though it is quite fun to try with 6-7 litres of liquids on one side and 2 carrots and a lettuce on the other.
If it’s not too windy I’d just do that - shopping is boring.

If I was walking farther I’d take a big rucksack and yeah I’d probably pack it more systematically.

I can understand car users not bothering to organise though.
Unless you’re driving 100km through the desert and think anything frozen wil melt.

It’ll may also be a matter of financing to be able to afford (compete with intel, apple, amd, nvidia) to book the most advanced manufacturing for decent sized batches of more complex chips.

Once they have proven reliable core/chip designs , supporting more products and a growing market share, I imagine more financing doors will open.

I’d guess risc-v is mostly financed by industry consortia maybe involving some governments so it might not be about investor finance, but these funders will want to see progress towards their goals. If most of them want replacements for embedded low power arm chips, that’s what they’re going to prioritise over consumer / powerful standalone workstations.

I think that’s the whole point of all risc - it saves power over cisc but may take longer to compute some tasks.

That’d be why things like phones with limited batteries often prefer risc.
