I think you are meaning “confident that this will go your way” when it should be “confident that your mood and well-being are going to be fine no matter how it goes”.

The second one takes the anxiety out and let’s you respond to how things actually are, instead of comparing to some other story. Then you can see yourself, the situation, and the other person more clearly, which helps make experience more worthwhile in any event.

That’s interesting, I don’t usually think of gratitude as an alternative to praise, but I’m going to try to keep that in mind in the future. I definitely have felt that I come across as insincere or condescending at times when I give praise and it makes me very self-conscious to give or receive it, but gratitude is just more enjoyable for both parties.

I feel like you might be onto it. If you actually care too much what other people are thinking of you, but are unhappy with yourself for how dependent that makes you (and maybe trying to deny or ignore it), then the direct experience of these compliments would be net negative. When people say bad things, your desire for emotional independence and your immediate urge to hold the comment at a distance are not in conflict, so there’s no problem.

There’s the structure, but so much of what we recognize is also the details of the expressions. I have an aunt who was adopted at 7 and she said all her life people could not believe she was adopted. This was a time when they made a big effort to “match” looks, but I think what really made people think she must be genetically related was that she and her parents shared these micro facial expressions and posture and mannerisms that they just subconsciously learned from each other.

I don’t know how the polling would catch them, but the idea that people under 30 are more progressive socially or economically is probably a huge simplification. I only have anecdotal information, but what is see is they are spilt, and largely along gender lines, with both sides taking the idea of a breakdown of government as we know it almost as a moot point.

Is it a problem that so much of the Internet, including your site, “depends” on corporate advertising? Yes. Is that censorship? No. You are free to find your own sponsors.

I see it all the time I think, but maybe my standards are low. Often what I see the traffic isn’t quite equal in both lanes, so it’s not abab, but people see the guy ahead find a space and they pick a space behind the next car and so on. It’s there more to it? Like if someone doesn’t get it, you just continue the zipper behind them, right?

We have a 2013 Leaf. Cost us $8k seven years ago, battery’s as good as it ever was, great around town or commuter for a 50 mile round trip commute (longer without defrost the whole way). Seriously the most fun car I’ve driven since our old manual bmw. The newer ones have bigger batteries if you drive more each day.

My kid prefers to be texted for dinner. Knocking is iffy because of the ear buds.
