My mom does this game where we have a bunch of random (and generally cheap crap) gifts and a some dice. We roll the dice and have to trade, steal, open or leave with the gift. The kids seem to enjoy it and we generally have a good time. The key is to have a decent gift and something crazy that is like ‘where did you get this.’ we recently introduced this to a friend group… There’s not a legendary homemade necklace that looks like someone named groodle made it 2k years ago.

From the comments this seems not so odd… But my go to is two pieces of white bread with cheese and mustard microwaves. I call it a mustard sandwich and my mother hates me for it…
Beeper is a good, easy solution. And it has a few platforms that might entice your family (FB, x, Whatsapp, signal, etc). It’s basically matrix with a bunch of bridges preset up… it can be self hosted if you really want to be privacy focused… I like it as it makes the login experience much easier than a traditional matrix app (like it just email them a code each login)

@Reygle it looks like you can build it and or use an rpi 4 build
*secretly i just want more info on it myself :D*

@sleepybisexual the internet archive has a good repository.

Envy - Eunoia
open.spotify.com/album/0ENNpHz…
I missed this dropped last fall and been listening to it kinda non stop for the past week or two. It might be their best release… Dunno. If you’re not familiar, envy is a post hardcore (with strong post rock vibes) band out of Japan. Legends in the scene.

@Coelacanth the internet archive game launcher is a great kodi addon ;)
(side note apparently you have to side load the apk from their site if you want controllers to work without an additional addon)

@Coelacanth it’s def held up by nostalgia… the movement is not greeaat. but man it’s so fun. :D
I think the second one is considered the best? or was it wrath of heaven… i watched a friend play that and it was a very different game tho. it’s a stealth heavy game for the first one.

@Corno i was just playing tenchu stealth assassin on the psx… classic… once i remembered the controls.
@lazynooblet I’ve been looking at this as my 2019 pro is starting to show it’s age as well… I’ve been looking at picking up an intel n150 box and either putting android x86 on it (kinda worried that will be a shit show tho) or just making kodi my frontend for it… or kde big screen. but yeah… haven’t pulled the trigger. getting a fast usb stick helped

@thatonecoder unless i missed it, it looks like no one suggested puppy linux! it’s very light and some variants (bookworm pup) has wayland options (32 bit and xorg options as well) and full apt usage.

Let me preface this by saying… I am not really into podcasts and lesser interested in d&d. I just have a hard time locking into some things…
The Unexpectables.
It’s from some of the team four star alumni, so it’s well voiced and well written. They’re on the second campaign and it’s just so good. It’s as funny as it is deep in lore.
@DonAntonioMagino making backups of your home folder (/home/username) is a great ways to survive reinstalls. also install discovery if you don’t have it. its an easy way to install and find software… i dont know opensuse package manager… but it should be a simple command
@Alphamars …generally speaking. loose some weight. at very least thats where i’m at

@murmelade @iii That might work with some Swiss cheese or something…
@acidbattery @LadyButterfly
Did you see that ludicrous display last night?
