It was good of you for trying. I did almost the same thing, except once I had an account on my little server, I started finding interesting people right away on the explore tab of the app. I followed them, and followed the people they boosted, and generally had a great experience. It sounds like it just isn’t for everyone and that’s ok. It will just keep growing slowly on its own.

My system is not ideal, but I have a lifetime deal with Proton Pass for $1 a month that I hope they never change because if they do, I’m getting off of Proton.
Currently, I have a custom domain that I use with Tuta, but I will most likely switch to a provider that is less secure and more compatible with third-party clients after my year of subscription is up.
I also have a decade plus of email history on Gmail that I need to search through all the time and people still send me emails to my Gmail account.
Ideally, I would have a second custom domain for my Proton Pass email forwarding service, so that I’m not giving spammers my actual domain that I care about.
Also, ideally, I would have a self-hosted email server and client setup where I could see all my email addresses, including an archive of all my Gmail history, in one place, and it would sync changes from clients back to the central server. But I don’t know if that exists.

I didn’t have a comfort movie per se, but for a long time I would fall asleep watching Star Trek the next generation. I would doze off to the sound of the ships HVAC system. There must have been a lot of silent pauses in that show.
Aren’t all voting machines left to right like this? I guess it would make sense to put the big blocky propositions on the left so that it’s not as easy for people to miss the main question.
I use the dishwasher for everything that can go in there, because I especially like the sanitization cycle.
When I worked at a summer camp, they had a commercial dishwasher that was amazing and could do a load / tray of dishes in about 45 seconds. But I don’t think this was particularly water saving. I could be wrong, but that was my favorite dishwasher ever.
Take a look at technology connections as videos if you haven’t already. The TLDR is that the type of soap you use matters a lot, whether the water is hot matters a lot, and using the pre-wash as intended matters a lot.
Depends on the type of equipment. Usually there’s a reason like there is a seam that you don’t want water pummeling constantly or with knives you don’t want them banging into other stuff and getting dull.
For a lot of good equipment in the sense of plates, food containers and stuff, the dishwasher is able to rinse at a much higher temperature than what hands can tolerate and will be able to get sanitized. So dishwashers are better in this sense as well if you want to sanitize your dishes without using a bleach rinse.

It’s not just hand washing like that. They have done comparisons with varieties of hand washing. Basically the only type of hand washing that saves water when done frugally is the three sink/basin method.
It’s not entirely waste if you learn something!
It really depends on the channel, but sadly, mostly no. I am in one cool one that is part of the tildes network, and I am in lots of ones on libera, but they are less active than they were 20 years ago. There are still many people on there, and it is a good vibe. Especially if you want to chat about programming or FOSS stuff.
If you try it and like it, it is worthwhile to configure a always-on connection that you can detach and reattach to - which is how discord and everything modern works. IRC being old means it is an extra thing to do, bit well worth it! Some people never go that route though.
