  • This is so dramatic and condescending. God forbid they just make something that people like. A lot of the areas that Nintendo makes top sellers in, other companies don’t even bother to compete.

Outside of indies, there aren’t many games like Animal Crossing, Mario, Zelda, Metroid, Mario Kart, Mario Party, Mario Sports titles, etc.

If you don’t believe me, watch the Summer gaming launch streams. It’s just 3rd person action, FPS, indie. 3rd person action, FPS, indie. With half of those games being GaaS to boot. Repeat for 1hr and end show. Platformers, kart racers, horror games, Metroidvanias, top down adventure, party games, these genres have just been abandoned to indies.

People like Nintendo because they make accessible, fun games that other major publishers don’t. They make games that you pay once for, even if that price is high. They make games that you can play together. They make games END, which is a shocking concept for an industry that wants to drip feed you and make your life about just their game, forever until you die.

  • For anyone on iOS, you can do most of this there too. On older iPhones you need a lightning to USB-A adapter you can get on AliExpress for like $3, but on USB-C iPhones it works directly.

The Files app has become like a full file manager, with local storage, unzipping, archiving, SMB connections, as well as most cloud storage services connect to it. Download Keka from the App Store and you can even unpack 7z, ISOs, everything you can do on a desktop.

Gex’s voice and lines are so iconic and specific, I hope they have every regions lines. Not having them will ruin the nostalgia for any region that’s missed.

Plus, people who know Gex from memes and YouTube will expect the US voice & lines, so you really want to cover all your bases.

EDIT - Oh it’s LRG, then judging by Clock Tower it’ll be the same games with some new art. Disappointing.

  • Am I the only one disappointed with how lazy this is? They put more effort into Plumbers Don’t Wear Ties than this. I have no idea why it has taken 3 years to make when it look like the original game with a translation patch running in an emulator.

I realize they’ve animated some intros and drawn some new art and stuff, but it would have been nice to get a faithful remake like SMRPG, or like The Dragon’s Trap where they redraw everything and make it widescreen but offer you the option to return to original graphics at any time.

If all they were going to do is QoL improvements and stuff like that, I would have preferred that they just don’t do the new animations and instead include Clock Tower PSX & Struggle Within with QoL improvements in one package.

The way it is it’s just not enough of an improvement over the SNES original with a translation patch to be worthwhile. Which is a shame because the people most likely to buy this are the same people who know how to get the translated SNES ROM very easily.

  • The bar and Tinder are not the exclusive domain of hookups. I met my partner of 5 years on bumble, my friend met his wife on Tinder.

I think the advice others are giving is true to some extent, work on yourself and good things will come, but for most people you also have to go the extra mile and put yourself out there.

Put yourself on the apps. Go to clubs, leagues, meetups, socials, events, parties etc. In general, say yes instead of no and talk to people instead of not. If something starts to develop you can give out those vibes that you’re looking for something more serious, and people will self-select.

  • I hate them. The stores clearly weren’t designed with them in mind, and all it does is make getting from point A to point B 10x harder if those points aren’t exactly where they expect you to go. Need to get to customer service or grab a paper after you’ve entered the store already? Good luck, now you have to go ALLLL the way around the store, fully exit, and then you can get there. Before it was a 2 second walk, now it’s 5 minutes.

  • Obama floated a single-payer option for healthcare, he was stopped by Republicans. People also need to realize that the Democrats scraping by means they have to compromise to survive.

You want them to do more? They need a mandate, not a razor thin slice. The Republicans have gerrymandered the fuck out of your country and made it so that even when they aren’t elected, they can control or block everything. They’ve made it impossible for Democrats to get a landslide, blocked absolutely everything they can, stirred up as much voter apathy as possible, so that even when they lose, they win. And you’re buying right into it.

This is also why everyone should vote Democrat. You only have two parties in your country. If the Democrats always win because the Republicans are too right wing, they will forced to abandon their most repugnant social policies to save the golden goose, tax cuts and cutting social programs.

This will force Democrats to move left to differentiate themselves, and so forth. Short of electoral reform which will never happen, it has to become political suicide to be against abortion, LGBTQ issues, etc like it is in other countries.

  • Wouldn’t the better move be the exact opposite? If you really want to move go for it, but barrier to entry only gets lower as time goes on, not higher.

I don’t know what “scramble” you would need if you did move to Jellyfin. If your library and setup is already working on Plex, why wouldn’t it just be a matter of installing Jellyfin, adding the library folders you already use with Plex and letting everything scan in? Ask your users to create accounts and add them?

And if it’s not that simple, then it’s hard to argue that it’s on the same level as Plex, isn’t it? Who even knows what the future holds? If Plex eventually collapses, Jellyfin might not even be the best solution. More time allows them to continue to improve it, or other solutions to emerge.

Plex literally has no purpose outside of the core library product. The other revenue streams exist to fund the core product, and it’s not a public company. AFAIK, Elan is still the creator, founder and CTO of Plex. If he leaves or they make moves to go public, then I’ll begin the arduous task of clicking on an installer 5 times and adding some folders to a new service.

For now, I think I’m good.
