Until recently they were recommending Intel CPUs over AMD at the low end, saying they provided better value for money in that segment. And they used to recommend Intel processors for gaming, back when they had the gaming crown.

As someone from a not-US country, I’m always amazed at how right wing the US “liberal” policies are. If Biden was our PM he’d be more right wing than our most recent conservative PM.

I don’t think it was specifically DARE here but I do remember some super cringe anti-drug ads in the late 80s or maybe early 90s.

Democracies usually have laws and some kind of government. There are no laws in Freetown Christiania and there’s no individual who has direct power over another.

I think this is a common misconception about anarchies - that there’s no social control of any kind. If you look at actual real world anarchies like Freetown Christiania in Copenhagen they don’t believe in a complete absence of organisation. Far from it - they develop community-based committees which have no actual power in themselves but are used to develop concensus on issues that affect the whole community. So rather than abolishing all rules they’re all about human collaboration and concensus.

For instance when hard drugs became a problem in Christiana the residents got together and banned hard drugs. It’s not a law as such but everyone’s in agreement that if you try to sell hard drugs you’ll be ejected.

It’s not a perfect place and it’s hard to say that their brand of anarchy works well as a system of government. It seems to have been a mixed experience for many people who’ve lived there. But it’s definitely been an interesting social experiment.

That’s what forcing people to return to the office does I guess.

Even if that’s true AI isn’t just LLMs. Saying that all AI is a surveillance technology is just stupid from a technical standpoint - you can train AIs on whatever data you like and it doesn’t have to be surveilled data. Adding to that there are plenty of non-LLM AI technologies that have nothing to do with data gathered by surveillance.

“Personal reasons”. If they continue to pry just say it’s extemely personal and hopefully they’ll back off.

That’s the story they’re selling but I don’t think it really holds water. Sure, they’ll have to remove the fitout and upgrade the plumbing and that costs money but no more than anyone would expect when building apartments. Some office buildings won’t be suitable for residential use due to their shape and they obviously won’t be converted but most are suitable and they’ll be fine.

The business lobby pointing at the ones which are unsuitable and saying “but this whole thing is going to be impossible!” looks disingenuous to me. There are plenty of good options and there’s no reason to expect they won’t be converted.

Their wanting you in the office is about control - it’s nothing to do with productivity or any of the other excuses.

Check your gutters to make sure they’re clear and there’s no standing water in them. It’s easy to miss it up there.
